Re: [suse-linux-uk-schools] StarOffice - Clunks and all
Hi, all,
A happy and prosperous New Year to you all.
I tried Star Office on Frankenstein-II (P133 in an original, vintage
PC-Clone box). It took over an hour and a half to install.
Double-clicking the desktop icon resulted in everything going s-l-o-o-o-o-w
for fifteen minutes, the frame for the window appeared, and then took
another eight to fill up with the Star-Office desktop. I couldn't get it to
do ANYTHING! (no clunky, there ;) Exit from the program took a further
twenty minutes.
Do you suppose I could do with some more memory for Frankie? <laughs> he's
only got 32Meg!
- On a serious note, SO 5.2 works fine on anything 300MHz and over, with
plenty RAM (64Meg bare minimum) - the only thing delaying my going over to
it is the (slightly) idiosyncratic attitude to databases' bits 'n' pieces
(queries, forms etc.) But, it's close - real close.
Regards,
Paul Ellison

Wow! And I find it so nice on the SuSE box, thanks for the warning, I was going to download the PC version, (that alone could take a week!) You waited 20Mins? :-o , I'm afraid it would have been given the three finger salute or the reset button long before then :-)
