Thanks for the info. Raju but I have done all of that so far. As I said, the printer is found and set up from the 9x machine without problem but when it prints the files sit in a queue on the SuSE machine and I can't get
to be released. The SuSE machine prints fin as well on its own. I suppose I need to check that I have the permissions set up correctly or something. Does your printing go through an NT server for validation? I think that
main NT server is the controlling device so perhaps it doesn't recognise my Linux box even though the 9x machines can find it due to the TCP/IP address? I need to investigate more but timetables never really permit any serious dabbling. Perhaps over the end of term "holiday". Paul

This is how I have done it at my school. Works fine .. for now ;-)
On the server EDISON. Installed Samba. Attached the printer on the server machine thru the Parallel (LPT1) port. Configured the printer via YAST (I have SUSE 6.2).
On each of the W9x clients: Start/Settings/Printers/Add Printer. Then chose network printer option. Browsed thru the list until I got to EDISON. Found the default printer under EDISON. Then chose the model and make of the printer to be configured. In my case it was HP Laserjet IIID. This is the general idea. There are several ways of installing a server printer on W9x.
If you wish a step by step method I can send that to you monday/tuesday. There were a few quirks I noticed. Will share that with you too.

Hello all:
I have managed to successfully install Samba and set up all parameters using the SWAT tool but can't seem to get the printer to work. I have the
The difference is: I don't have any NT on the network!! Samba acts as the PDC. So our environments do not match after all. Sorry. ----- Original Message ----- From: Paul Taylor <ptaylor@uklinux.net> To: Raju <raju@one.net> Sent: Sunday, March 19, 2000 5:42 PM Subject: RE: [suse-linux-uk-schools] Samba them the printer
hooked up to my main machine in the classroom and there are 15 9x stations on the network that print to this device. I assume the print request goes through the NT server upstairs and then to my machine so don't know if the permissions are modified by this? I can look at the print queue and see the files waiting to go but it says that there is no server even though it lists my machine as the target one. I read in one of my collection of steadily growing Linux books that you need to have windows (HP in this case) .dlls and other driver files in the printer folder on the Linux end but is this really necessary? Once I can crack this I think I will be sailing. I'm sure it is quite simple but I am climbing the curve like many others. The room I am in is a headache as none of the 9x workstations print all of the time and most times the student has to restart the machine several times before they receive a message "do you want to print what is in the queue". Since there is no printing happening, most students keep hitting the button and later that day or even the next day it decides to print and I have loads of wasted sheets. I assume that with Linux as a file and print server this will go? Thanks in advance, Paul Taylor Westwood St. Thomas School cc negations@yahoo.com
