However now I try and boot from the suse disk I get a prompt LIL- (ie - no 'O') with a flashing cursor and no keyboard input works.
Check the LILO readme
Partway down its says....
LILO start message - - - - - - - - -
<snip>
LIL- The descriptor table is corrupt. This can either be caused by a geometry mismatch or by moving /boot/map without running the map installer.
Well that's my message so what can I do to get this fixed? -- Colin McQueen : Using an Acorn StrongARM Risc PC Web Domain : http://www.mcqueen.uk.net/ BSc Zoology + Oceanography : PGCE : MSc in CBL/T

Actually I've now sorted this :) Took a bit of courage but I RTFM and then changed lilo.conf on the redhat disk /etc and altered fstab on the suse disk ran /sbin/lilo and viola a system that can boot redhat or suse. Phew, Our whole school Intranet online curriculum for ICT depended on that. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. -- Colin McQueen : Using an Acorn StrongARM Risc PC Web Domain : http://www.mcqueen.uk.net/ BSc Zoology + Oceanography : PGCE : MSc in CBL/T
