Hi I am new to linux and have just installed SusE 8.1 on a server I am trying to make it a cd server for an 2000 domain with nt4 clients have been following the man pages and found that the in etc/services the swat port 901/tcp has a conflict . I am also interested in the smb.config file that any one may have that has already done this Dave

Hi Dave, Welcome to the world of Linux :-) Setting up a SAMBA share so that it can be used with Windows(X) is easier than you think, and indeed, SWAT is merely a web-based solution for editing "/etc/smb.conf". As to why you should have a port-conflict is interesting. If, in "/etc/services" you have multiple listings for port "901", comment out those which DO NOT contain "SWAT". You can comment lines out by appending a "#" to the beginning of a line. I prefer editing the file by hand. If you tell me the kind of things you want (i.e. the functionality of SAMBA), then I am more than happy to help you with this. Just as an aside, you should check out the following web-site: http://www.linuxgazette.com It has LOTS of useful information. I also write articles on-line for them :-) HTH, -- Thomas Adam (no longer a student at school) ===== Thomas Adam "The Linux Weekend Mechanic" -- www.linuxgazette.com __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
