Re: [suse-linux-uk-schools] Samba - users folders
Sorry, not making myself clear!
I spent easter playing with samba - my boy is now networked! How do I specify the path for the users directory? as I wish to put this on a volume with more space.
The home directories are on the Linux box I assume? In which case they're probably /home/username
The home directories are indeed at /home/username but I wish to set my own path for home (rather than the default, so that it resides on a volume with lots of space as I will be redirecting "My Documents" to this space. The idea is to place all of the users home directories on the root of the second hard disk that is mounted so device /dev/hdb1 mount point /opt I assume that this would be /opt/home/username
Is it possible to log into a Samba session from the host LINUX machine?
I _think_ what you mean here is smbclient which sort of acts like an FTP client to an SMB server, man smbclient should give you all the info you need :)
I have been using smbclient, but it would be more useful sometimes to view the system as a client from the host machine, ie. see and use the services as though logged into a remote client. You will appreciate this if your dog races you up and down stairs between client and server while your 6 year old computer genius son is "just making this bit better" or battling the forces of evil in a DOS session as soon as your back is turned! :-) It's nearly as bad as being at school! Move the machines? You try telling the enemy that's a good idea. Many thanks in anticipation Adrian Kind Regards Adrian Wells P.S. You could use a symbolic link so that once you've changed where they are, they still appear to be under /home

You can use smbclient to log into the same machine that you're at - is that what you mean?
Many thanks in anticipation Adrian
