Further to Mike's comments and my own investigations, it is definitely specific to 9.1 as it worked well for me before I loaded 9.1 only and it works perfectly with Knoppix and 8.2 live eval. Both of these load the device on the desktop as /dev/sda1 on /media/sda1 (probably mnt/sda1 with Knoppix). However, 9.1 finds the camera fine and then mounts it as /media/usb-storage-xxxxxxxxx:0:0:0p1 and then it does not allow anyone to read or write to it. I can only assume that whatever file loads it as a hotplug device, it loads the mountpoint, but fails to mount the device? Does that make sense to anyone? What file can I abuse to try to get it to work. I have tried adding /dev/sda1 /media/camera to fstab but it still loads automatically as /media/usb-etc-etc. Is it worth trying without the hotplug enabled and try to mount it with fstab? It is the only usb device I use and quite important. If I can't solve it I will have to delete it all again and return to 9.0 (probably not a bad idea I hear some say :) Paul
