If I have Squid Ldap Auth configured, and a logged in windows user access the Internet, will their credential be passed to squid for verification or will an authentication dialog pop up? I intend to do the LDAP auth to a Novell eDirectory on the linux box. It needs to be seamless other wise they will all end up entering the same username instead of their own. We have been using identd on W98 workstations in the past but the ident server for windows XP pro seems to be a little problematic with Volatile Local User accounts. Any Ideas? Thanks Rob.

Squid *can* provide authentication, but that would be pointless. Having an ident server running would be easier so that you casn trace who has/hasn't been using it. By default squid does not require authentication to use it. -- Thomas Adam ===== Thomas Adam "The Linux Weekend Mechanic" -- www.linuxgazette.com ________________________________________________________________________ Want to chat instantly with your online friends? Hi,
On the topic of authentification - can anyone suggest ways I can find
out about;
1. Setting up ldap as a school for user log in management. A good
example of distinquished name, schema etc. and ways to get other services
to limit based on uid, groups, etc.
2. Is there a way that as new users and groups are added to Ldap (say
via a web interface) that scripts can be run to produce user accounts,
etc. or must it run the other way round. What about MSWindows OS.
I'd like to look at running a simple single way for a small school with
very limited technical ability, limited (Linux, W200 and XP) OS range,
and a large range of pupil ages to set up and manage pupils, user space
limits, mail, access class or year shared directories, age limited web
access. Longer term possible access in to a DMZ to use web course
materials, homework, etc.
Someone may suggest the information already exists, but most I see with
simple searches seems to focus on US corporates - not UK schools.
Apols for simple request, but not done anything with ldap before.
