Many thanks for all of the replies. Not much time to play at the weekend either, I must be cured, no longer a silicon junkie. I tried another ISA and a PCI 56K without joy - I will try the 'modem site' today, One of the modems can be set to non-PNP but has no option for setting ports IRQs etc. I did however have success with an old internal 4800 modem which configured without any problems after I set it to port 1 and disabled serial port 1 in the BIOS. but none of my ISPs don't support such low speeds any more and I just timed out! :-) :-( Does wvdial only look at ports 1 and 2? As a matter of interest the 56K modems were all generic types and none of them mentioned the fact that they were win modems in the sparse literature. I am thinking of investigating the "Linmodem" project that is going on to see if the "winmodems" can be made to work on Linux. Of course, since I am no expert I have to learn a lot of other things before I understand what goes where and why. Of course the Linmodem project is nowhere near where it can be used productively yet..... ----- Original Message ----- From: adrian.wells <adrian.wells@sidcot.org.uk> To: Suse List <suse-linux-uk-schools@suse.com> Sent: Monday, March 20, 2000 9:40 AM Subject: [suse-linux-uk-schools] Modems so far
