Have a look at gcompris http://www.ofset.org/gcompris/ or better still, download FREEDUC http://www.ofset.org/projects/edusoft/edusoft.html and run it all straight from boot CD (do press F2 at boot though, unless your French is good). Trust me, it's worth the download/burn time. And anyone comes up with an idea for a puzzle for gcompris, and doesn't have the development skills, I've got developers lined up for a go...
