1. For StarDict is needed only noarch packages.
2. Scilab is powerful and complex program and it can be built with gtk interface so I assume that it should be difficult to package it. Also it has not GPL license see details in http://www.scilab.org/legal/index_legal.php?page=faq.html#q6 Is it possible to include such kind of software?
3. http://www.kdau.com/projects/gelemental/ - periodic table viewer (derived from Gperidic) and http://littlewizard.sourceforge.net/ - programming for children If you find them good I'll try to make packages both of them.

Greetings! 1. It's good that there is the last version of StarDict, but may be you include also its word sounds and GPL dictionaries. 2. I'm glad to see wxMaxima and Octave, but may be you include also Scilab (program for numerical computations with own GUI) as to me it's better than Octave. 3. Gperiodic (periodic table of elements) and Little Wizard (programming for children).

thank you, I will look into it. Any chance you build RPM's ? --
Kirill, It is not possible to include non GPL'd software. Your other suggestions look very nice and applicable to our needs. I would like to include them. Do you have a build service account? I can place you name in the edu-desktop maintainers list if you do. We must speak with Lars before we add packages to the desktop repository, so that he is aware of their existence and your willingness to work on them.
