2. The list of dropped packages in comparison with old page (why?): bc (Math)
in the distro
calctool (Math)
in the distro
fraqtive (Math)
hm: need to be checked
dosbox (Emulator) dosemu (Emulator)
both in the distro
quanta (WebDevelopment)
renamed
enigma (LogicGame) kmahjongg (LogicGame) kmines (LogicGame) kpat (LogicGame) kreversi (LogicGame)
needs to be checked
lincity-ng (Simulation)
maintained in the games repository, but should end up in our add-on repo/media.
anagramarama (Languages)
broken since 10.3 - and obsoleted at least by khangman
rekall (DBMS) kile (Publishing) scribus (Publishing) audacity (AudioVideoEditing) FreqTweak (AudioVideoEditing)
in the distro
Stopmotion (AudioVideoEditing)
needs to be checked
dia (FlowChart) xFig (FlowChart) kolorpaint (2DGraphics) GIMP (2DGraphics) Inkscape (2DGraphics) Skencil (2DGraphics) blender (3DGraphics)
in the distro
GRASS (Geographic Resources Analysis Support System)
in the geograhy repository - but has many dependencies which just can be fullfilled with including nearly all packages from this repository. Needs to be rechecked.
TaskJuggler (project management tool) PythonCAD (Engineering)
in the distro
Note: packages which are already in the distribution (and even if they are just available via FTP) are not longer linked/aggregated into the Education buildservice repository - as this will increase the needed space and cost of build power without real benefits. BUT: + the packages should be listed as they are really useful + packages missing on the official download DVDs (and therefore just available via FTP) should end on our add-on media to avoid that people need an online connection to install our recommended software. That's already the case for our 11.0 (and if I'm correct even 10.3) add-on.
3. The list of packages to define their categories in new page: KLogic
"Electronic" ?
iTalc kiosktool kde-kids-theme sabayon
"System or System-Management" ?
childplay
"General Learning"
eXelearning
HTML-Editors or Web-Publishing
gcompris
"General Learning"
GRAMPS
Hu? ;-)
KDissert KSociograma vym semantik
"Mind regulators" ;-) KDissert, semantik and vym are Mind Mapping Tools, Ksociograma is a tool for social networking. Perhaps the first three fit more into the "Office" Category? The last one...??? Psychology?
Any comments about new wiki page concept are welcome. 1. Program name is the same as package name 2. Level one categories are from RPM GROUPS (for easy installing) 3. Level two categories are from http://standards.freedesktop.org/menu-spec/menu-spec-latest.html (for easy and consistent browsing and finding installed application)
Also, good icons representing ages are needed to support visual age differentiation.
On my way... ...if krish isn't faster ;-)
And the last, should wiki page include educational-related software from the official repo and if so, how to differ them?
Yes, it should include it. And we should take care, that these packages are also listed in our patterns. Perhaps we can add the official openSUSE logo behind packages, which are already in the official repository?
