First, my condolences to yourself and your ysgol on the RM situation. Second, if you want to reincarnate the older machines, try playing with thin client, it's more productive in reducing school costs and so much more fun! Third, mount <your RM server>\<user's share> to /home/<username>/mywork - I'd probably investigate doing this with smbmount and smbauth. As a matter of interest, how much does it cost the school to keep up with RM? -----Original Message----- From: Gareth Edmondson To: Rob Keeling; SuSE Linux UK Schools Sent: 5/11/03 7:31 PM Subject: Re: [suse-linux-uk-schools] Suse and Winbind Hi Rob, Thanks for getting back to me.
Define console? If you mean a bash shell then yes. By console, I meant Workstation. I have installed SuSE 8.1 with a KDE desktop (running Mozilla for Web, Open Office for productivity).
The reason for doing this is to reincarnate some of our older machines (plus I enjoy fiddling). The school is running RM Connect 2.4 (soon to be 3). That is the reason I want the usernames and passwords to come from the NT domain. On Connect, each user has a work space called MyWork. This is held on the server's D drive, but gets mapped to a users N drive. D:\Users\Y98\Y98SmithJ becomes N:\MyWork when JSmith logs in. Any advice..? Hi,
Has anyone out there successfully got SuSE working with WinBind so that users can log on to a SuSE console with their NT/Win2K username and password?
Define console? If you mean a bash shell then yes.
Once this is done, how easy is it then to map a work drive from the NT domain to a SuSE drive?
With a fiddle factor I have managed to set up suse 8.1 to join a NT domain, allow the Domain users to log on with their home directory mounted from an NT server.
I haven`t managed the same trick with X windows yet, but hopefully someone is going to point out the glaring error tomorrow.
Let me know what your trying to acheve.

Your help is appreciated,
Many thanks
