hi Derek
speaking in ex-Becta mode.... ;-)
In Surrey the SEGfL are proposing to connect us to a 2MB/s link (courtesy of RM) the link i think you will be getting will be infact BT's MetroVPN 2Mbps service, as supplied by RM (ie services on-top, such as web hosting....). Its a contended service, performance subject to 'site survey'.
The fun bit is that unless you are very close to the exchange it will have to be on fibre. Currently trying to get BT to arrange to dig a trench for Febuary half term.
but will be web-hosting on a system only using Frontpage
support (no cgi etc.). Does anyone have experience of this product, any security issues which need to be addressed etc?
yuk....no cgi? hmmmm seems somewhat inflexible perhaps the RM IFL people on the this can explain why. Frontpage is easy to publish, not sure whether its only supported by IIS, not Apache.
The other part this is an "RM recommendation" to "Upgrade Internet Browser to Internet Explorer 5.5". Quite a few things about this seem very Windows centric...
See you at BETT?
indeed, would it worth organising some form of Linux / Open Source 'event' at BETT, a gathering on the Microsoft or DfEE stands, all brandishing copies of our unwanted Windows licenses? Anyform of get together would be nice, choose one of the days ?
Well I was planning on thursday, that's assuming Railtrak can manage to ensure there is something for trains to run on... Anyway not sure carting around 10's of thousands of pounds of documents is a good idea :) -- Mark Evans St. Peter's CofE High School Phone: +44 1392 204764 X109 Fax: +44 1392 204763
