I seem to remember from the WINE web site that Encarta was one of the packages which runs well under WINE. If anyone does have any success with this I would like to hear about it. I haven't tried it yet myself, but I thought it looked hopeful. ____________________________________ Giles Nunn - Network Manager Carms Schools ICT Development Centre Tel: +44 01239 710662 Fax: 710985 ____________________________________ On Thu, 23 Aug 2001, Edgehill e-mail service wrote:
Sadly, we have not yet found a suitable replacement, but I gather that Britannica (a far better alternative, being Euro-centric, rather than USA-centric) is in HTML format with its own search engine on-board.
My assistant-guru is currently trying to get it to install and run under Wine, but no joy so far. It may be that one of the Linux search engines (big choice for Apache) will be able to be modified to mimic the Britannica functions?

Hi,
I have recently installed Linux and Squid at a school
and it was suggested that if there was a suitable
replacement for Encarta then the school would move
about half ( around 120 ) of their PC's to Linux.
I have been searching for something but have found
nothing so far.
Has anyone any idea if one is available?
Thanks.
Norman
