Hello,
below a list of packages currently assigned to kde-maintainers@suse.de which - if I made no mistake - are not required by any product pattern. They IMHO do not have to be part of the core distro and could be maintained by someone in Contrib repository[1], KDE:Community repositories or dropped without pain.

I don't think that contrib is a right place for kde3 apps, it is a place for packages with no extra dependencies, I am little bit scare what happens when kde3 lib will be dropped ?
No, we currently have no plans to drop basic runtime environment for KDE3 applications (that is, kdelibs3 + kdebase3-runtime). What will no longer be officially provided by openSUSE11.2 is the KDE3 desktop, but KDE3 runtime should stay as long as (reasonably) needed.

I think it would be a wise choice to add kde3 to contrib. But I cannot become it's maintainer. -- -Alexey Eromenko "Technologov" -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-contrib+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-contrib+help@opensuse.org

No, this is not about KDE3, but about KDE3 packages (packages that need kdelibs3 to run). I don't think it's wise and plausable to add KDE3 (Desktop) to Contrib. -- Best Regards / S pozdravom, Pavol RUSNAK SUSE LINUX, s.r.o Package Maintainer Lihovarska 1060/12 PGP 0xA6917144 19000 Praha 9, CR prusnak[at]suse.cz http://www.suse.cz -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-contrib+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-contrib+help@opensuse.org

Why not? I thought "Contrib" is about having *one* repository where community can maintain packages and users know contributions are reviewed & maintained. sorry for question I don't want be annoying , but what is then the purpose of KDE:Community repo, if contrib is about having *one* repository where community can maintain packages ? The differences that come to my mind immediately are, KDE:Community - builds against older distro releases (not only next upcoming) - builds against other build service repositories (eg KDE 4.3 devel) - everyone is owner of the repository and can add stuff unreviewed & also modify other people packages - development version of applications are allowed - introducing new dependencies are allowed (at least not prohibited) - there are no repository release freezes, no only testing periods - there is no guaranteed maintainance / obligation for maintainer => KDE:Community is a playground and not Contrib:KDE Bye, Steve -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-contrib+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-contrib+help@opensuse.org

I would like to go forward here. We don't want to provide kde3 desktop + applications in factory/11.2. But we still see quite a bunch of users, so I think having it in contrib is the next best thing. Shall I just move it and make myself maintainer until someone more interested comes up or should I submitreq one by one? We're talking about quite a lot of packages :) Greetings, Stephan -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-contrib+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-contrib+help@opensuse.org

I think KDE3 might be large enough to have a seperate focused repo... Ciao, Marcus -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-contrib+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-contrib+help@opensuse.org

What makes KDE3 special that you want to block it out? I see community maintained KDE3 desktop within the vision stated on /Contrib. And the focused repo won't go away, we still want backports to older distros. But currently KDE:KDE3 are source links to openSUSE:Factory and I think they should be source links to openSUSE:Factory:Contrib if it's third party. Just that its large and could be offered seperately. Otherwise no problem.

If OBS repos are able to provide Patterns (and I think they can somehow) it should not be of concern that KDE3 is large. -- Best Regards / S pozdravom, Pavol RUSNAK SUSE LINUX, s.r.o Package Maintainer Lihovarska 1060/12 PGP 0xA6917144 19000 Praha 9, CR prusnak[at]suse.cz http://www.suse.cz -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-contrib+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-contrib+help@opensuse.org
