Hi!
What do you think about temporarily building Contrib for 11.1 (until 11.2 is out and Contrib is branched). This would make its usage and testing easier for those who don't run Factory.
We can extend you sentence also for openSUSE 11.0 and 10.3 - right?
Basically - there were discussions about contrib-backports.
OK, you are right that my proposal goes against what has been already discussed. However, my intention was to enable it only temporarily until Contrib becomes more mature (~stable branch for 11.1 will be created).
It may be nice-to-have -- but the main point why it was not made originally is because no one wanted to test newer contrib packages with older dependencies. (on distros such as SUSE 10.3)
If some packages do not build against 11.1, it wouldn't mind (no need to fix that). On the other hand, I admit that if some package won't work as expected, it might discourage people from using Contrib.
From user point of view there is a need for backports. But stability was most important.
I can easily live without that, it was just a proposal.
