[opensuse-conference] Questions about the Icinga workshop
Hi Guys Thanks for accepting my proposed talks and the monitoring workshop! I like to know if you have any concrete ideas especially for the workshop - here is what I have in mind for it: * Target: 8-15 people (pre-registration would be very appreciated! Can this be marked on the final agenda?) * can you provide a dedicated room for the 4 hours incl. Beamer and whiteboard ? * Attendees should bring a Laptop with them, pre-installed with openSUSE. We will install the latest packages from the server:monitoring OBS repository locally. Can this be announced together with the registration link for the workshop? * We need a dedicated network for the "hands on" part. I want to avoid a scan/monitoring of all the other attendees of the conference. I guess a 16 port switch together with some cables should be ok. I might be able to take the hardware with me, just want to avoid additional weight for my flight. :-) with kind regards, Lars BTW: is there a packaging workshop planned for this year? If not, what do you think if we should arrange some? -- Lars Vogdt <Lars.Vogdt@suse.com> - OPS Engineering Services Team Lead - SUSE Linux Products GmbH - GF: Jeff Hawn, Jennifer Guild, Felix Imendörffer Maxfeldstraße 5, 90409 Nuernberg, Germany - HRB 16746 (AG Nuernberg) -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-conference+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-conference+owner@opensuse.org

Hi Guys
Hey,
Thanks for accepting my proposed talks and the monitoring workshop!
I like to know if you have any concrete ideas especially for the workshop - here is what I have in mind for it:
* Target: 8-15 people (pre-registration would be very appreciated! Can this be marked on the final agenda?)
I have made a note of the pre-registration request to trello. Agustin has informed me that some people from his team will work on worskhop-related issues, so we can further discuss details about this later on. I guess, though, that depending on the day of the workshop, we could do the pre-registration also on-site.
* can you provide a dedicated room for the 4 hours incl. Beamer and whiteboard ?
If by dedicated you mean that you can stay in one place (room) for all 4 hours, then yes. Workshop room will be set up with desks and chairs and is the room on the groundfloor of our venue. It has a projector, a projector "screen", mic, speakers. I cannot promise a whiteboard but I have put it in our todo list in trello.
* Attendees should bring a Laptop with them, pre-installed with openSUSE. We will install the latest packages from the server:monitoring OBS repository locally. Can this be announced together with the registration link for the workshop?
Could you please add the exact text you would like to be communicated to attendees in your proposal description?
* We need a dedicated network for the "hands on" part. I want to avoid a scan/monitoring of all the other attendees of the conference. I guess a 16 port switch together with some cables should be ok.
We kinda have pretty much closed the subject of network, as the work has to get started on the setup, however please check trello & the email I had sent you about the network issue and let me know your thoughts/comments. I will relay your comments to the person in charge of setting up the network and see what we can do. I guess the network won't be that much of a problem. All network equipment is sponsored, so we probably cannot find any more switches, other than the ones we will use. Either way, I will double check and let you know.
I might be able to take the hardware with me, just want to avoid additional weight for my flight. :-)
with kind regards, Lars
BTW: is there a packaging workshop planned for this year? If not, what do you think if we should arrange some?
There is "OBS Packager Workshop" submitted by Henne.

I've another idea: what about placing something on news.opensuse.org for each of the workshops? Here would be my proposal for the Icinga Workshop: ---------------------------------------[snip] About the Icinga workshop To provide a cool workshop covering all the questions that might come up during the short time, let's agree on some preconditions: * Target: 8-15 people. First come, first serve. Pre-registration by writing an Email to lrupp@suse.de (maybe including some personal informations/expectations and questions) is very appreciated! * Please bring your own device: A Laptop with one of the latest openSUSE versions up and running would be wonderful! * The current ideas: + compare the leading open source monitoring software suites Icinga and Nagios + latest changes in the monitoring packages and plugins + setup a monitoring system, including: + basic monitoring setup with active/passive checks + nrpe and nsca + notifications via Email and SMS + WebUI overview and hints + include pnp4nagios to get graphical statistics + SNMP management with snmptt and nagtrap + integrating NagVis + integrating check_mk (agent) + scalable monitoring with mod_gearman Start the discussion: what do you like, what do you expect? Should there be more? Share your ideas to get a great workshop! ---------------------------------------[snip] Jos: I guess you can create some output of my idea? Yeah, if we can get similar descriptions from the other workshops, that would be possible. But I'm going to be busy and traveling starting tomorrow until oSC - Anditosan promised to help out a bit, perhaps he can take this on? I can probably find time to review the article before it gets published.
With kind regards, Lars

Or we could add such feature in the registration page in OSEM?

Dne St 10. července 2013 12:57:07, Lars Vogdt napsal(a): *snip* Hello guys, I will take care of this. So my plan will be to ask all the workshop presenters to provide the list like Lars sent and then create nice gdoc sheet where all the talk-giving people will write up their requirements and we will propagate it to the people over news or something in that way. For the registration I would go with allowing the sheet for people to edit so they can preliminary register there by writting mails in some field and provide comment&suggestions section, which of course will not be mandatory to adhere by the workshop creator, but might provide him good ideas what people are expecting/wanting to see. Cheers Tom
