[opensuse-conference] Conference website - first version :D
I've prepared a first version of the conference. If somebody gives me write access to https://github.com/openSUSE/conference.o.o (github account: jospoortvliet) then I'll push and we have something which is VERY far from done but in terms of text ready to be pushed. The logo is there as well. The only todo left is the page banner artwork (aaandiiiii!!!) - after that, it can already go live as first version... I deserve some hugs, don't I? ;-) /Jos

Jos thanks for doing this :) (Hugs rightfully deserved!) Nikos Chatzidakis and Pavlos Ratis should be taking care of that, but exam period is in the middle currently. Regardless, that should get going soon. I hope to arrange my access later this week as well, so that I can upload some stuff myself too. I have putting some thoughts on a gdoc [1] regarding the texts that should be uploaded in the webpage too. So that we don't lose material and we also get the text proofread and checked for accuracy before we upload anything. Then we need someone else to help out as it has to be done tonight...

The website can be further filled up later, that is OK. I made initial pages for everything, following the structure from last year.

Nice. I'm usually lazy with that - a fix is done easily, but it's good to have a process where things are checked.

OK, some wording changes and the removal of the "Register Today" button are pending in a pull request. Will re-enable the "Register Today" when registration opens, i.e. as soon as OSEM is ready. Please keep in mind that we're not trying to give a historical correct representation of Greek architecture. We're trying to promote a conference to mainly non-Greek people.. The Parthenon _has_ to be in there :) Henne -- Henne Vogelsang http://www.opensuse.org Everybody has a plan, until they get hit. - Mike Tyson -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-conference+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-conference+owner@opensuse.org

Hello, I disagree, the Parthenon has no place in the front page. It could be put somewhere else, eg where the text with the history of the city and the country is, but not in the front page. It is like a trademark. PS Less than two years ago, a project did a conference in a country, and put all of the historical monuments of that country in the poster, and it was ridiculous. I'm not gonna reveal the name of the project, but here is the poster [1] [1] http://farm7.staticflickr.com/6166/6203040147_33284bd6d7_z.jpg Theo -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-conference+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-conference+owner@opensuse.org

There is only a frontpage. It's a single page site :)

Exactly! For Greece. Which includes Thessaloniki last time I've checked... Ok that's a bit silly issue to argue... Thessaloniki has plenty of monuments and places of interest that can be used for photos/backgrounds/whatever. We don't need to dig around all historical monuments of Greece (they are simply too many). Other than that it makes sense to use artwork that corresponds to the city that people will visit. Parthenon is a trademark of Athens just as much is a trademark of Greece. And most people can actually distinguish this monument and place it in Athens (not just anywhere in Greece and definitely not in Thessaloniki). On the other hand the same thing happens with the White Tower and Thessaloniki. The point is that our photos/artwork should not be confusing or misleading, not to even one single visitor. I believe this is what we are trying to avoid by insisting so much on using things that are familiar to Thessaloniki. So that the right correlations are made by our attendees. People that have only visited Athens, definitely remember Parthenon and seeing a photo of it, they will make the deduction that the conference is probably taking place in Athens. I hope we can all agree, this is something we don't want. @Henne: When can we have this new awesome website available at conference.opensuse.org ? -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-conference+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-conference+owner@opensuse.org
