[opensuse-conference] Fwd: openSuse Conferance
See below. We've done it at conf.kde.in too - it is not too crazy much work (other than requiring the board members to sign it, of course) and it is helpful for some. I'm sure Carlos can create a design, we can print it - we could either add a "I would like a certificate" button to registration or make one for everybody. /J ---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: apostolis ntokos <apostntok@gmail.com> Date: Sun, Mar 9, 2014 at 9:54 PM Subject: openSuse Conferance To: jos@opensuse.org HI Jos, my name is Apostolos Ntokos from Athens, i m student at University of Pireus and i'm friend with Kostas Livieratos. He told me about the conference and I am very glad because i m going to participate ιn this on April. Izabel
At my unversity it counted as extra credit to attend events related to my career. He probably doesn't need a certificate with stamps and so on but a simple recognition that he was present. I hope we are not falling into the idea that such certificate will become a "standard" for all openSUSE gatherings. You guys jump your guns too fast. Maybe we can just do it for him and no one else. -- Andy (anditosan) anditosan.com -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-conference+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-conference+owner@opensuse.org

Hey all! Even though what Dimitris says appears to be a general fact for greek bureaucracy, just like Izabel mentioned an attendance certificate can have many more uses (more practical and essential). It is close to impossible to prove that you are attend such conferences without such a certificate, since you don't have some receipt for your payment or anything similar. Such a certificate would be the only way to prove you attendance when you apply in a university, for instance, specially universities outside of Greece where extracurricular activities play a more significant role at student selection. And that is very important for people that are still undergoing any kind of education. And we do have such people in our community. Last but not least, it is a nice recognition to all the volunteers and organizers that play a significant role in the organization of such conferences. My opinion remains the same since the very first time that this was discussed. I strongly support the idea of giving a certificate of attendance - and there are fast and easy ways to offer it to people that really attended. Not that it would really hurt anyone if we give out an extra one. Such a certificate can only benefit people that know how to use it properly, and for those people it matters and its worth our time to think about it and implement it. On a more practical note, Carlos has already worked on a certificate layout for oSC13, which was never used. I will be happy to further work with Carlos to finalize it and give it to board for approval - and possibly further follow up on board's comments. Stella

It is not just a Greek thing. I know it is greatly appreciated in Brazil and in India, students also can receive credit for this. Honestly, I can't think of a reason to NOT do it, other than that somebody has to do some work for it. /J
