[opensuse-conference] Is it ok to walk through the tunnel below Nuremberg Hbf?
Hello, I calculated route from my hostel to the venue & found shortest path where Google map is suggesting to go via tunnel below Nuremberg Hbf. [by walk] Is it ok to walk through that tunnel? Is it safe to walk through that tunnel in evening hours? I checked it via Google street, tunnel looks pretty dark as I go inside virtually. How much is the estimated time [by walk] to cross this tunnel? Route for reference = https://www.google.co.in/maps/dir/Frauentormauer+42,+Nuremberg,+Germany/Fran... Yes, it's ok. It's used by many people to travel between the old town centre and the southern part of town. As an alternative, you can walk through the rail station, under the tracks, where there is an exit adjacent to the south end of the Celtistunnel. Or you could get public transport or a taxi to closer to your hostel to avoid it altogether. Germany is generally pretty safe. Be smart and don't walk slowly around the areas around the railway station area at 1am at night alone with a DSLR around your neck whilst looking at Google Maps on your phone.

It's not as dark as it looks on Google Street View. It's not blindingly brightly lit either, but you can see well enough. There is a cycle lane on the side of the pavement nearest the road, pedestrians should walk on the side closest to the wall to avoid cyclists having to dodge them.

This option looks good. Is ok to transit from inside train/rail station without any special entrance ticket? In India, we need to purchase platform ticket if transiting from inside train station. Or even if we are standing inside the station to see off family/friends etc, need to buy platform ticket.

I am going to commute by foot to explore Nuremberg. ^_^

That's a good info. I'll be careful.

Yes, you only have to buy a ticket if you actually want to travel by train / subway. And as Will already suggested, if you have doubts, walk through the rail station which is usually frequented by a lot of people, even in the evening / night (and also brighter than the tunnel next to station).

It's fine to go through the underpass under the platforms without a ticket. Those areas are marked by a sign "Zugang nur mit gültiger Fahrkarte" and there will be a machine where you can get a multiple use ticket stamped to validate it nearby, but there are no physical barriers or turnstiles as you would find in eg the London Underground. You should therefore have a travel ticket if you go onto the platforms themselves but there are no barriers. Platform tickets are history here in Nuremberg and in most German railway stations - according to the wikipedia page on the subject only Munich and Hamburg still sell them, but I can't recall ever needing one in Munich: https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bahnsteigsperre Will -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-conference+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-conference+owner@opensuse.org
