[opensuse-conference] BoF sessions
Heya, What's the plan around BoF sessions, what rooms are available for that and where/how do we schedule them? Cheers, J

BoFs will be scheduled onsite. We will have a whiteboard at foyer for that. Artemis room will be used for that. It holds 10-15 people. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-conference+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-conference+owner@opensuse.org
Hi, we need to schedule our meetings and BoFs in advance. Could it be possible to have a wiki page where we can make the reservations? On Wednesday 03 July 2013 21:55:58 differentreality wrote:

This doesn't make a whole lot of sense. BoFs are the unconference part of oSC13. Unconferences are not scheduled in advanced but ad-hoc depending on the people that are there, that's why they are unconferences and not conferences.... But if we know that some people will be there, I don't see why we wouldn't organize at least part of the sessions in advance. We did it at the oSC'11 conf that way, too, and it's done at plenty of other events like Akademy. Plus, there's a number of sessions I'd like to have and I'd rather plan them in advance and tell people about it ;-) Cheers, J

Because then nobody knows where to schedule them. We have seen this at the oSC'11 conf and plenty of other events too...

Other communities seem to manage just fine, eg KDE: http://community.kde.org/Akademy/2013/Monday Not all sessions have to be pre-planned, but this works. That we didn't do it in the past is what we are trying to improve...

Good. Then, we'd like to know how many rooms there are, how big they are - and set up a wiki page with a schedule... Thanks, J

I agree with Jos, we should be able to schedule the BoF session we know about ahead of time in some way.
Because then nobody knows where to schedule them. We have seen this at the oSC'11 conf and plenty of other events too...
I think that is a problem of communication and potentially tooling, not a problem inherent in pre-scheduling BoF sessions. Maybe OSEM, not for this year, could get the functionality that people can pre-schedule BoF sessions in a designated room.

I agree with Henne. There is no reason to per-announce, and no one holding you back from per-announcing, BoF sessions that you already plan. I've put up an article on news.o.o to plan BoF sessions: https://news.opensuse.org/?p=16320 Christopher has prepared the wiki page \o/ 0 / \ https://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Conference_BoF He will send some reminder mails to people. Having prepared sessions with preferably an agenda is simply more likely to create useful results than gathering people on the spot. And we'd like more results from our event, don't we? /Jos
