[opensuse-conference] Scouting of locations... KC first!
Heya all, Went with Theo and Michal to the KC place today. See the video below for an impression: http://youtu.be/qwKUrWXO5NY The place is big enough for about 200-250 people. The main hall is very nice and cozy and bigger than what we had at the location until 2010 so it should be OK to hang out there. The little cafetaria is OK for drinks and snacks but we do need more for lunches (they can help with handing stuff out and we can put our beer there as well). In 2 min walking distance is a small shopping area with a LIDL and a restaurant. ~10 min walking away is the dormitory, with about 150 low-priced hotel rooms. We could reserve them all - it should cover most of our visitors. The metro is about 15 min walking or one bus stop - there are plenty of busses going. The metro station is however not very close to the center - it's about 30 minutes from Mustek (city center). I understand we are not allowed to hang up posters so we can't really brand the place green :( My impression of the rooms: enough. Not big, not many - but good enough. Parties inside wouldn't really work but there are places nearby according to Pavol. Total verdict: the place is nice, but on the small side. The location is quite a bit from the city center. Don't forget to read my other mail (coming in 10 min or so) with a nice surprise :D /Jos -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-conference+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-conference+owner@opensuse.org

The place looks good - do you think hosting that Labs conference at the same place this year again (with hopefully a little bit more definition to the Labs conference) would be viable? If we will get the other place, everybody is very excited now, and we will be co-hosting openSUSE Conference, LinuxExpo and Gentoo Conference, I think SUSE Labs conference can fit without much troubles and as we need to make some distinctions between all these conferences, eve though they are on same place in same time, I think it would be more distinguishing this year. -- Michal Hrusecky <Michal@Hrusecky.net> -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-conference+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-conference+owner@opensuse.org

Thanks for posting this. The place certainly looks nice but....
The place is big enough for about 200-250 people.
which is my main concern. I am not certain how many people we actually had last year, but it appears to me that the space will be tight, maybe too tight.

Good enough may not be sufficient to continue to grow the event in coming years, if that is what we want to do. It only takes one sidestep and we have to start from scratch. Anyway, we'll see how it works out. At this point we do not have any alternatives anyway.
