[opensuse-conference] oSC13 Theme
Hey, before we, in the promo team, can get anything done we need a theme and motto for the conference. It's the starting point for everything: Logo, website, posters etc. The motto should reflect what we emphasize at oSC13 and the theme should reflect how oSC13 will feel. To explain what I mean look at the last couple of events we held: * oSC12 Motto: Bootstrapping Awesome. We emphasized bootstrapping a new Linux event in the Czech republic. Theme: Urban, Big City, Prague monuments * Summit 2012 Motto: Engage! Collaborate! Invigorate! Emphasizing the hope to build a new American openSUSE community. Theme: Summer, Tropical, Beach * oSC11 Motto: RWX³. Everyone is able to do everything. We emphasize doing things together instead of just talking. Theme: Retro, Old Factory This wasn't always a very conscious decision so this year I would like to make it one. What are we going to emphasize this year and how will oSC13 feel? My personal suggestion would be: Motto: Power to the Geeko. A variant of "Power to the People" [1]. Emphasize the empowerment that you so easily get in openSUSE. Theme: Politics, Greek Democracy, Greece What do you think? I would also prefer "Power to the Geeko" since I find it a bit symbolic for this years conference :D Also people from the Artwork Team there is an idea on Trello about making a promo T-shirt with the moto "Summer is comming - oSC13 - Greece" any ideas on that? I would really like to have people running around FOSDEM and other Events with those T-shirts, if you like the idea and someone can work on this, take a look at: https://trello.com/board/promo/50c9f627390884e80700997e "T-Shirts for promotion to communities" Kostas

The mottoes and themes of the past have generally been meant to support an overarching goal of the Project as a whole. RWX because we needed our community to get to work. Engage Invigorate etc. beause we needed the U.S. community to step up and get more involved in the Project. And so on... And the retro look and feel of oSC11 also contributed to the overall perception we portray about openSUSE, a community that is run by the community itself and that openSUSE is what we make of it. It, by far, exceeded any other event we've had for the "Have a lot of fun!" motto that is integral to openSUSE. So, now we have oSC13 in a new location, much further away than previous oSC's. Resources and the availability will be different. At the same time, we're in a jumpstart year. The message and theme has to resonate more widely than just around the walls of the conference itself. It is a new travel destination and time of year, which greatly impacts the question of "will they come?" And I hope they do. The theme and motto needs to be made much louder and reverberate more globally for the oSC to achieve its goals. Certainly more than last year, and sooner and outside the physical attendees. Even as one of the organisers, but not being physically present, it was much like hearing someone setting off firecrackers in a nuke shelter, from outside with the doors closed. port - sounds good to me in reference to location (Thessaloniki is a port city) and it also implies a certain international flair Not too thrilled about doc workers and unions. Unions is a heavily politicized topic, at least in the US, and "doc workers" reminds me of hard grunt work. How about: play - Thessaloniki will be the European Youth Capital in 2014 [1], thus this would play in with a future cultural event of our host city and also pays homage to the SUSE motto think - Thessaloniki is home to Aristotle University [2] and of course we want to have people think before they send their SRs to factory ;) Later, Robert [1] http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/European_Youth_Capital [2] http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thessaloniki -- Robert Schweikert MAY THE SOURCE BE WITH YOU SUSE-IBM Software Integration Center LINUX Tech Lead rjschwei@suse.com rschweik@ca.ibm.com 781-464-8147 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-conference+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-conference+owner@opensuse.org

I think the decision is up to the promotion and organization teams. Those that feel strongly about things like this can and could have signed up to help. I think taking the step to solicit feedback on the list is great, but I see no reason to put this up for a vote. It might be useful to post what we have so far to the -project list and get more feedback there. Then next week during the oSC team meeting a decision can be reached and that's what we will run with. I agree. It is not an absolute necessity to put it to a general community vote. People who see oSC will know it is the people who organized it that decided and planned around it. The deciding theme/motto is a symptom of the vision that the team creates. I think essentially what happened here is that a page was taken out of the Summit's name-voting process. But even then, the list of names to vote on was based on a clearly defined goal of the event. And as I did not want to be seen as the dictator/decider of the name, we put it up to a vote. But only those names that reflected the goal were in the list. Here, you have a larger team, therefore no need to put it to an outside vote. Just be clear to define the goal before you come up with theme/motto. Ask yourself first and foremost: WHY are we having this oSC? WHY is it important this year? WHAT do we intend to achieve this year? Once you answer those three... the theme/motto will literally fall into your laps. :-) Bryen -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-conference+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-conference+owner@opensuse.org

Henne
[1] http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Power_to_the_people_(slogan)
Based on Bryen's 'clever advice', I thought about the why of this event and it's importance and what we intend to archieve. Clearly so did Henne with the 'power to the Geeko'. But politics is a touchy subject and the empowerment in openSUSE we already emphasized with the RWX³ conference. Not saying that governance isn't important but I think we can get there indirectly. So what coud that be? The thinking about history, the age of thinkers over 2000 years ago in Greece - that resonates very well with me and clearly with others on this list.. We're a bunch of forward thinkers, aren't we? It is about transforming society - the Greek history has formed ours and now technology and openness (Free Software, Linux) are transforming ours, forming the future. As all seem to like 'Power to the Geeko', let's keep that. But let's add history, replacing politics, and changing the world over empowerment and governance: Motto: Power to the Geeko. A variant of "Power to the People" [1]. Emphasize how we've got the power to change the word. Theme: Philosophy, Greek history and thinking, Changing the world. Brings a more 'deep', grounded, yet global theme, less controversial, yet very close to the initial proposal we actually, deep inside, all like :D As you might notice I basically summarized the discussion and took the conclusion from there... On a related note. If there's not too much disagreement, let's get this to any artist we know ASAP. Because really, the MOST urgent thing I can think of, aside from getting the venue fixed, is *artwork*. We MUST have a logo and some banners and things as they 'carry' all announcements and marketing work, as our Social Media team (Zoumpis & diamond_gr) already pointed out last year. To help kickstart things I've gone over the list of articles we've created in the last few years and made a plan for announcements. See https://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Conference_promotion_todo_list I'm preparing a CfP article and will try to prepare all the articles on that list and keep them up to date with the info that comes in. That means artwork (as soon as some is ready), CfP data, speakers etcetera. Feedback welcome :D Hugs, Jos

About Moto / Theme:
I like the Moto.
I agree with *avoid* politics, specially since international news
overpresent the situation.
I agree to reflect the cultural part (history/philosophy/freedom
struggle etc), since it is (or should be) one of the main things that
come in mind when referring to Greece.
And I would definitely like to see some beach background in some artwork.

But let's add history, replacing politics, and changing the world over empowerment and governance:
Motto: Power to the Geeko. A variant of "Power to the People" [1]. Emphasize how we've got the power to change the word. Theme: Philosophy, Greek history and thinking, Changing the world.
Brings a more 'deep', grounded, yet global theme, less controversial, yet very close to the initial proposal we actually, deep inside, all like :D
As you might notice I basically summarized the discussion and took the conclusion from there...
See https://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Conference_promotion_todo_list
I'm preparing a CfP article and will try to prepare all the articles on that list and keep them up to date with the info that comes in. That means artwork (as soon as some is ready), CfP data, speakers etcetera.
Feedback welcome :D

Now we need a logo (thinking geeko with beach behind?). We can ask Shayon if he can prepare a website instance like for the previous conf so we can start writing texts..
Link is also present in relevant trello task of CFP in Program board.
About Moto / Theme:
I like the Moto. I agree with *avoid* politics, specially since international news overpresent the situation. I agree to reflect the cultural part (history/philosophy/freedom struggle etc), since it is (or should be) one of the main things that come in mind when referring to Greece. And I would definitely like to see some beach background in some artwork.

Hey,
before we, in the promo team, can get anything done we need a theme and motto for the conference. It's the starting point for everything: Logo, website, posters etc.
The motto should reflect what we emphasize at oSC13 and the theme should reflect how oSC13 will feel. To explain what I mean look at the last couple of events we held:
* oSC12 Motto: Bootstrapping Awesome. We emphasized bootstrapping a new Linux event in the Czech republic. Theme: Urban, Big City, Prague monuments
* Summit 2012 Motto: Engage! Collaborate! Invigorate! Emphasizing the hope to build a new American openSUSE community. Theme: Summer, Tropical, Beach
* oSC11 Motto: RWX³. Everyone is able to do everything. We emphasize doing things together instead of just talking. Theme: Retro, Old Factory
This wasn't always a very conscious decision so this year I would like to make it one. What are we going to emphasize this year and how will oSC13 feel?
My personal suggestion would be:
Motto: Power to the Geeko. A variant of "Power to the People" [1]. Emphasize the empowerment that you so easily get in openSUSE. Theme: Politics, Greek Democracy, Greece
What do you think?

Shayon has suddenly moved back to India for personal/health reasons. I suspect he'll be less available this year while he tends to his personal matters. Nevertheless, unless you want last year's nanoc design revamped, I am certain all you need to do is copy over the files from the existing instances and then modify content, which you already know how to do. Last year I found nanoc not ideal. Not easy for people that don't know
HTML to join, you need somebody to deploy it every time, people writing
stuff need to write stuff locally commit stuff, push stuff, ping
deployment guy, he needs to login, pull, compile... Too many unnecessary
obstacles in the way I would say and if you need to change something,
you can run into delays... Personally I would prefer to just pick up yet
another Wordpress instance and adjust some theme to our needs. It worked
quite well last year for LinuxDays guys.

Good points. The intro paragraph is quite separate and can easily be removed. It could be used on the first page of the conference website or so... Or moved down as description of the event. Let me do that, see if it works for you guys & girls. Meanwhile, I also prepared a "conference registration is open, website good to go" announcement: https://news.opensuse.org/?p=14916&preview=true Just staying in the theme.

Looks good to me. Once we sort out how we collect the money (separate discussion I am trying to drive to conclusion) we should turn the Supporter (Eur 30/USD 50) Professional (Eur 300/USD 500) entries into links directly to the "sales" portal. Certain is that we will have "ticket sales" from the suse.com store but other options may also materialize. Best would be shop.opensuse.org, but at this point I do not know who controls the content and money collection for the openSUSE store. I would like to see this separated into 2 announcements/articles. I think the CfP should be separate, i.e. everything below "Call for Papers" should be a separate announcement. This will allow us to "officially" announce the conference even if we are not quite ready with the CfP infrastructure. It will also allow you to expand the article and talk more about our host city and the Greek community making all the local arrangements (and more). The expanded coverage of the locale will help us when we seek the oSC14 location. Further having the CfP separate allows us to get double coverage of the event in short order without repetition. The article should also speak about supporting the event by buying "supporter" or "professional" tickets. We still need to figure out what we will do for "professional" tickets but I think we should at least mention this. I should have a link for the ticket sales soon, hopefully in the next day or two. The CfP tool will not be ready for prime time for maybe 2 weeks and I would not want to hold up the conference announcement while Matt puts the finishing touches on OSEM (Open Source Event Manager). Hey all :) Friendly warning, this is one of those long emails of mine. There was some controversy about the beach element. Maybe we can solve it and satisfy both sides (me being one of those that want the element of sea present). One, of the many, characteristics of Thessaloniki is the fact that is built literaly next to the sea. Which means that in the center of Thessaloniki we have a promenade where you can walk next to the sea [1]. I think we can use a photo of tha promenade to show the element of sea without implying the totally relaxed scenery of beach/sun. Moreover, the promenade at some points passes right in front of the White Tower (the main symbol of Thessaloniki) [2]. I was thinking we could use the following (as a horizontal header, basically for the website): Promenade, left side White Tower, right side some other monument. - Other monument: * That could be a part of the walls of Thessaloniki [3] or the Arch of Galerius [4] * Or we can use Aristotelous Square. [5] This is the most known square in Thessaloniki, it goes vertically in the center of Thessaloniki and ends up by the sea. It is a bit farther away from the White Tower, but if we use it, it will be as if we are showing a miniature (ok, a bit out of porportion compared to real distance) of Thessaloniki center (looking at it from the sea). There are excellent photos of Aristotelous Square at night (and the rest, promenade & White Tower could still be shown in daylight) and make some sort of contrast. (IF that would look nice, because my artwork skills are non-existent) - Geeko: * We can have a geeko on the white tower (now our artist can further work with contrast and angles and blur to actually show the geeko clearly) * Or perhaps some family-geeko walking down the promenade towards the White Tower Also, a long shot: It would look extremely sophisticated (and would depict some more historical and cultural sense, which is what we want to give) if we did not use photos but a hand sketch of all the above. @Andy: I saw you did the logo drafts by hand and I got ideas in my head. As I said, longshot but I thought it was worth mentioning just in case. Logos: Absolutely great logo drafts, both of them. I would not, however, go with the first one, because it reminds more of Parthenon (which is a major symbol of Greece, but is in Athens, not in Thessaloniki) and that could be confusing. I find the connotation of the second really amusing actually (in a good way). It is interesting and definitely takes you to another era. Depending on the header image, if we go with geek on white tower, that could also be made into a logo. Or geeko with leaves (2nd draft) can be put on white tower. And we also have the idea of Juergen for geeko in thinker pose, which goes very very well with 2nd logo draft. Motto/Theme: I am not very good at this, and I just want to make a note of sth. Going through all the emails that were sent over and over again, the words I saw made a pattern (if put in correct order), a pattern of Greece's history. There were words like culture, philosophy, history, freedom and then we have Power to the Geeko for possible motto and then we wanted some "Future" reference and to put a bit of the word play inside and associate it with critical thinking (maybe as in thinking before playing, sth like Robert mentioned). So what comes in my mind, reads sth like that: Past - Present - Future: Power to the Geeko History of the past has cultivated the greek culture of philosophy and critical thinking, and shaped the sense of democracy, as we know it today. As history went along, there was war and struggle to get Freedom for Greece. The fight for Freedom ultimately offered independence and (modern) democracy, which we presently enjoy. Thinking about the future, we have to preserve democracy and use it to people's best interest. Power has to come together with critical thinking for the general/wider good. Using one's power has to be about motivation of other people to create and build stuff using all their abilities, aiming to providing joy and well-being for everybody. I hope that we all get how these things coincide quite a bit with openSUSE community, Jos presented most of it in his email. We are definitely going for more power to the community, we have a more community-organized event this year and we intend to make it a successful one (defining successful as: having many interesting talks, increasing number of workshops so that some actual work can be done during conf, happy attendees that fulfill their goals to meet people, attend interesting presentations and leave with a bit of extra knowledge) So we have Power to the community (and prove that community can take the power and build stuff and take the community one step ahead), the power of the Geeko! Because geeko can! So we have to Think, Create and Develop. Do you also see some combination of these texts as the next announcement we make about osc? The idea is that we make 1 announcement before we announce CFP, right? An announcement to give to people the whole concept behind the conf. Maybe some greek elements are nice (note how nicely Robert has already used in the call for volunteers the word plethora), even a bit of greek history (not boring endless lines, one-two lines if they can be combined with openSUSE history/goal/vision). Now decision of motto is something that makes my life difficult, because I liked a bunch of them. * Power to the Geeko [I like it because it goes straight to the point. The geeko has power. The geeko will now do stuff. Power to the Geeko. *Maybe* the word power has some bad connotations as well, but still it sounds strong and confident. ] * Think, Create, Develop [This can be more like a sub-motto? And we can use it to finish the articles too. Think. Create. Develop. Power to the Geeko!] * The voyage to freedom [This I also like a lot! I find it to fit nicely with greek and openSUSE history. Is it just me? Would nicely go at the end of articles too, I think. Think. Create. Develop. Off to the voyage to/for freedom. I like the fact that we put inside the word voyage which is french, the whole thing starts getting an actual international sense. And freedom implies power too in some way.] * The port of freedom [Same as the above but I like voyage better.] * Off to new shores: The Green Voyage [I am not sure if we want to talk about change (again). I feel I have heard about change quite a few in the project. Maybe we don't need to shout change any more, and focus to stability and certainty instead. Certainty also having an implication for steady/realiable software etc.] Random note: Juergen wrote in his email "Power to ThesSUSEniki", in greek that actually read as "Power to the SUSE win" (niki = win in greek). Thinking about the future references that were made, I have an alternative logo to propose. Instead of going with the more tranditional/retro design we are currently exploring, we could also consider a more futuristic one. A very modern photo of the white tower with a geeko on top of it: White tower photo taken during night, with the different lightning and all [1] with a photo of the huge geeko that we had in Prague [2]. Something that looks more modern and surrealistic, a very vivid image with bright shiny colors (like the ones used in posters for science fiction movies). Photos are of course samples, just so that you can get a rough idea of what I am talking about. Got me thinking about simple futuristic geeky idea for webpage header
that I cannot put into pictures[1] so I'll try describing it. What about
drawing some skyline of Thessaloníki using tron-like motorcycle? Not
sure how to put geeko in, maybe draw something more like motorcycle,
give it a little perspective, geeko riding it towards us so bigger than
the skyline he just draw... But then it wouldn't be simple and I was
trying to draw geeko on top of motorcycle for some time and never got
anywhere and when looking at what I have drawn, I shouldn't be allowed
to use Inkscape :-D
Just a worthless idea, I'm sure our artist will come up with something
great.

Hey Stathis, Stella, it's understandable that you like Thessaloniki, your city, and it's landmarks and monuments. One's own home always evokes a lot of feelings. But if it's not your home and you haven't even been to the place, the white tower is just some old tower and the promenade is just a street by the sea. Unless you're into castles and water-side-architecture they won't evoke any big feelings from you. The vast majority of people to come to oSC13 will not be from Thessaloniki or even Greece so using landmarks as theme for the conference doesn't make much sense. It should be something anybody from anywhere can connect to. True that the main attendance will not be from Greece. But we are going to have a logo anyway, aren't we? We could make it be something relevant with the city - why not? As long as it looks nice of course, I don't see why it should not be related to the city that hosts the conference. In any case, as you said Henne let's see what's the progress on logo drafts and relevant artwork and we will see how to proceed. We are all in agreement that this should be completed the soonest possible, even though I would not mind spending one more week on the issue. Artwork is basically the first thing someone notices and it makes sense to make it nice. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-conference+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-conference+owner@opensuse.org

Because it doesn't mean much to people not from Thessaloniki. We want the motto/theme to mean something to as many visitors as possible. Because it doesn't mean much to people not from Thessaloniki. We want the motto/theme to mean something to as many visitors as possible.

Hello I just finished working on these possible logos. I consider these close to final so let me know if they work or if you have a preference over any others. I think we should chose one and then start producing artwork based on them. Notice the strong Greece flag blue and white. I think they go well with these elements and I can see these logos placed on brochures and banners. http://i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h414/anditosan/WhiteTower_zps7a978f13.pn... http://i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h414/anditosan/ChameleonBust_zps891d380d... http://i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h414/anditosan/chameleon_zpsa266674d.png Thank you Andy (anditosan) -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-conference+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-conference+owner@opensuse.org

True that the main attendance will not be from Greece.

I love this one most as logo - can go with the previous one I think. This the logo, the other as poster/banner motif. Or something.... ?? BTW you're a king for moving forward so quickly - awesome :D
Thank you Andy (anditosan)

Most urgently, we need a poster design probably most - with date, location etc on it. Incl the 'Power to the Geeko' slogan. Would really have to be ready end of next week - so we can print a bunch and bring them to FOSDEM! Maybe a small and a large version - something which works on a postcard- format and something that works A3 (that's approx double letter in crazy- world-format, I believe). If those are in SVG we can adopt them to other sizes where needed (as esp US and the rest of the world have different paper formats). A banner for the website (probably similar banners like we had last year) would be helpful too - but if we have one base banner design in SVG it is again not too hard to adopt. Cheers, Jos
Thank you

It'll be cool if you use some ancient greek fonts. I made a file of some fonts I have. Check it out: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/53534387/ancient_fonts.pdf I wrote openSUSE and use size 18. Is this then the logo you are going with? What other marketing elements are expected to be created? Such as banners, business cards, brochures, etc?

I got an idea this morning. For the last openSUSE Summit there was a small reception in which we were awarded a diploma for participation. It was really cool to get a small little reminder of our participation. Since the development of the logo I thought makes up also for a good small price. Maybe a "medal" (plastic) with the leaves that usually go on coins. They link to the logo. Or maybe get actual leaves' crowns (that one is a little crazier but seems fun) for those who get recognized. What do you think? Andy (anditosan) -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-conference+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-conference+owner@opensuse.org
hmmm
yes Andy, I do not only like the medal or any kind or recognition,
gift, cetificate to everyone that support, help, contribute to the
project, conference, meeting..that I already did few times before.
Have a look here my opensuse medal made by soap,

Also maybe is a good idea to give back a kind of certification for
participation to people that attend to the event.
I made some and for some I give personally in paper and others I send
a pdf file.
Some certificates that I made in respect of everyone that had helped
to make an event be sucessfull could be found here

- A certification for people that has helped during openSUSE
Ambassador Hack Day, (do you remember Kostas, our first task together
rsrs)
we sould do something similar for the artwork team, and ambassadors
program 2.0 I believe.

As this is now the logo, could you upload the SVG to github if you have not, already? And, either from you or anyone else, is there a poster for oSC13 already? If we want to print things in time for the largest Free Software conference in Europe (that'd be FOSDEM) we need something within a few days. Suggested text for poster: openSUSE Conference 2013 Power to the Geeko Thessaloniki, Greece July 18-22 2013 conference.opensuse.org (not everything has to be on there in all cases but I strongly suggest to at least have the date, location and website on it. But be creative.) /Jos

I have to agree with Henne. If I had to think about artwork, and I do not claim to be an artist, and the motto to create artwork around is "Philosophy" then there are few things that come to mind that I can associate with the term. However, a word like "Play" creates a much richer word and concept association to have fun with when creating artwork. Greece has a lot of iconic elements to its culture. It would not be hard to come up with something visual that can help further a particular theme or motto. Hey all, Maybe something like: "The reason of being Geeko" All the things that Greek culture remind us like philosophy, history, added with powering the Geeko force could be enforced by the artwork creation. A Geeko thinking and on his thoughts: a) the "Antikythera mechanism" as Stathis meantioned, b) our factory logo, c) the beach or any other important City symbol showed in the organization video well done by the Greek Team, d)... We are thinkers, we are green and for me the next conference will show that we can do better and use 2011 as an example that we all together in a very good place can make us "create, think, develop" even better. I don't know... This conference will be ours and will be focused on us - I hope! Might be the place again for us to show our strenght and the maturity as community. Might reflect the Greek and Geeko culture after all. :) Izabel -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-conference+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-conference+owner@opensuse.org

I must say that I don't find that many strong visual representations of "Philosophy" and in combination with Greece you will even get less.
Please remember the theme is mainly something we need as starting point for creatives, it doesn't have to make much sense, it just should have some connection to oSC13 and the motto.
I also find it a bit dull to go for the most obvious thing. I must say, I'm not convinced.

Philosophy is a good one, what about "history," "knowledge"?
History would also be part of it, yes. The three things being "Philosophy, History and Change". Robert, you are proposing to replace Philosophy with Play? The text I wrote for the sites is written around Philosophy, history, change. I would find it far harder to write around play, history and change but feel free to give it a try. /Jos

Not necessarily, it is associations I am after. "Play", in my mind and possibly other peoples associates with fun, you know, "Have a lot of fun!", while "Philosophy, History" rather remind me of dull school subjects I had to slug through in the distant path. Then again, I am not writing the text nor will I be creating any artwork and thus I should probably just stop adding mail to this thread. Well, I ya'll agree a playful element needs to be added, then helping to think of one that doesn't seem out of place would be appreciated :D Maybe somehow focus on the properties in Greece which (helped) make the great age of philosophy possible: the climate which was so conductive to growing food, enabling larger cities etc. I am thinking 'beach' but am afraid that that will bring too much of a frivolous message, making the event not to be taken serious - which is bad esp for sponsors (but won't be appreciated in SUSE either). Summer, then? Power to the Geeko? Summer, Philosophy and Change (or Summer, History and Change) Does that work?

Robert As far as I know, we'll have collaboration summer camp. So summer, beach etc fit there ;-) All the other mentioned on this thread, will give us more ideas.

That's just one of the three words. And I dunno about you, but there's a lot of visual stuff around thinking and philosophy, even more with (greek) history and 'change' trown into it.
Please remember the theme is mainly something we need as starting point for creatives, it doesn't have to make much sense, it just should have some connection to oSC13 and the motto.

Hmmm. Maybe check the pieces I wrote (here links to the previews https://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Conference_promotion_todo_list ) and see if it works for you. If not, well, maybe we should indeed pick someone else. Nobody ever told me I'm creative and I'm guessing that's for a reason ;-)

What more than old dudes and pillars are there really? Not very exciting, very... well old. Nothing I would associate with us. The best theme so far I have heard is: port, ships 'n stuff, voyage, change, movement But that doesn't really go well with the proposed motto. Maybe we ought to change the motto. * The port of freedom * Green Voyage * The voyage to freedom * Off to new shores Ideas?
