[opensuse-cloud] [ml-admin] Merge opensuse-cloud and opensuse-virtual
Hey Peepz, we are currently trying to reduce the amount of communication channels we provide. Because of this I would like to merge the opensuse-virtual an opensuse-cloud list. I'm just not sure how. Judging from the amount of traffic we should fold opensuse-cloud into opensuse-virtual and change the description of -virtual to refer to cloud activities. What do you think? Let me know. Yeah, not as simple as it initially seems.

Would folks realize opensuse-cloud is the proper forum for their kvm, xen, virtualbox, libvirt, etc. questions? I'm struggling to find a name that represents both cloud and virtualization, which suggests both are needed? +1, keep both. Virtualization != Cloud. Looking at it from a more general angle, I believe Virtualization was the pre-requisite for something like the Cloud; I'd therefore vote that all subscribers to opensuse-virtualization should be moved to opensuse-cloud and we'll take it from there then.

As someone who's just recenlty had to dig through all the resources around here to find the right place for relevant info, I'd look to opensuse-virtualization for those issues, but, tbh, would never think to look in opensuse-cloud, since I do nothing IN the cloud. I'm happy to hear that simplification is being considered. It's hard to find the right place for stuff, especially when half the time there's TWO different issues involved -- e.g., when there's a problem with xen kernel. Does the issue go to -virtualization, or to -kernel lists? Why not crib from ubuntu community? They have "ubuntu-server" list & irc. If you look at their description of 'server' http://www.ubuntu.com/business/server/overview you'll notice they refer tp virtualization, cloud, clustering, etc ... basically, all things server, in one convenient place. I.e., just have opensuse-server. In addition that'd get many more eyes in one place, rather than spread out all over different focus groups. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-cloud+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-cloud+owner@opensuse.org
Is it possible to add a set of aliases to the main list? Eg. opensuse-virtual is the list with the following aliases: 1. opensuse-cloud 2. opensuse-kvm 3. opensuse-xen 4. opensuse-virtualbox Regards, Manfred -----Original Message----- From: Jim Fehlig [mailto:jfehlig@suse.com] Sent: Wednesday, October 26, 2011 12:09 PM To: Henne Vogelsang Cc: opensuse-cloud@opensuse.org; opensuse-virtual@opensuse.org Subject: Re: [opensuse-virtual] [ml-admin] Merge opensuse-cloud and opensuse-virtual Henne Vogelsang wrote:

No, but the other way round is more appropiate cloud --> virtual -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-cloud+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-cloud+owner@opensuse.org

Yes we should merge the lists. There is almost no traffic on the cloud list and the 4 or 5 of us that are involved with the cloud projects should be able to handle what comes across the virtualization channel. As Manfred said, there's no cloud without virtualization and in the end cloud people might pick up some usefull information based on discussions about kvm, xen, libvirt etc. I propose: cloud-virtualization@opensuse.org as the name for the new merged list.
