[opensuse-cloud] What's the decision for openstack build service?
Hello Everyone, I have found that we are still running the build service for OpenStack project (Train Release) recently. I'm wondering if our community will continue the build service for future OpenStack releases, such as Ussuri and Vitctoria? As i know, still have many users want to run OpenStack on OpenSuSE/SuSE platform. If we have decided to not go any further, then can the end users have the chance to build on their own? I mean, can we still provide the source RPMs for OpenStack and dependency? Appreciate if any clarifications. Cheers! -- FuLong Wang fulwang@linux.vnet.ibm.com IBM Systems Lab _______________________________________________ -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-cloud+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-cloud+owner@opensuse.org

Out of interest - where do you get that impression from? Any numbers/hints? Best, Tom -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-cloud+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-cloud+owner@opensuse.org

+1 Our company works with (open)SUSE products including OpenStack, so there's at least one number. ;-) Currently, we're building a Salt-based mechanism to deploy a highly available OpenStack cloud (based on openSUSE) in connection with a SUSE Manager. And it looks very promising, our goal is to migrate our non-ha cloud to a ha environment. Regards, Eugen Zitat von Thomas Bechtold <tbechtold@suse.com>:

Just a quick follow-up on the Salt-based HA-Cloud upgrade, we managed to achieve our goal! We installed OpenStack Train on openSUSE Leap 15.1 via automated Salt states and managed to migrate all instances to the new environment. We also managed to switch from linuxbridge to openvswitch during that migration. Since there's a huge lack of information regarding high availability with OpenStack I will write a short blog series about our work on this topic. And since the preparation and migration process took a little longer during the day-to-day work we're already out of date with Train and will have to upgrade to Ussuri soon. But now that we have a HA environment it can happen without downtime. :-) Regards, Eugen Zitat von Eugen Block <eblock@nde.ag>:

Hello Eugen, Congratulations for your success. Could you give us more information about how do you install OpenStack with Salt? And I am looking forward to seeing your blog series. Thank you. Hi and thank you! I can provide some details, sure. We have a SUSE Manager in our company (aka Salt-Master), that machine is also our PXE server for automatic installation processes via cobbler and AutoYaST. The first stage was to prepare the AutoYaST profiles so our servers would be automatically installed. Since that environment already exists for some time now this part didn't take too long. The second stage was to prepare lots of salt states, they manage the whole configuration part of the new cloud servers (if you're not familiar with Salt). This was probably the biggest part of the preparation, the entire server configuration (not only openstack services) is covered by salt states, although most of the non-openstack configs already exist for the rest of our environment. So after the AutoYaST installation the "(Salt) highstate" is executed on each node, depending on its role (control or compute node) the required packages are installed and the configs are written. Then we bootstrap a pacemaker cluster with the first controller, the other control nodes simply join that cluster. After that the rest of the services is configured and then started as pacemaker resources. Feel free to ask for more details, or wait for the blog. ;-) I just have to review the drafts before I can publish them. ;-) Regards, Eugen Zitat von opensuse@wolke7.net:

Tom, So sorry for the late reply! Yes, I'm talking about the openSuSE Build Service for Openstack. I don't have specific numbers in my country, but as i know many of the financial service providers in my country were using SuSE Linux to provision infrastructure level service and they started to play Openstack in recent years for the implementation of their cloud journey. -- Regards FuLong Wang _______________________________________________ On 4/27/20 15:57, Thomas Bechtold wrote:
