What should the repo names for Leap be?
Hello all, I hope I am in the right place with my question. It concerns the names of the repositories for Leap in the Build Service. Lately I notice that the names are handled differently. One time the name is openSUSE_Leap_15.4, the other time it is just 15.4. But which is correct? Where is defined and described how to name the repositories? But this does not only affect 15.4. For Leap 15.3 there are even two repos in devel:languages:perl. One is 15.3 and the other is openSUSE_Leap_15.3. Leap 15.4 is still completely missing. What should the name for Leap 15.4 be? Translated with www.DeepL.com/Translator (free version) Best regards Eric

My vode goes to "openSUSE_Leap_$VERSION". ...mainly because that means I don't have to "fix" my existing Leap systems... XD so on a more general note, I don't actually care if its "openSUSE_Leap_15.3" or "openSUSE_15.3" as long as it's the same for every single repository. Obvious exceptions would be all those KDE/Plasma repos that exist in various combinations of Qt, Foundations, and so on. Hi, for 15.3 the default name was selected to be "15.3" as Leap an SLE are just a flavor of the same packet base. There is a news on the build.opensuse.org page:
Repository name "15.3" has been decided and be set as default for openSUSE Leap 15.3 and SLE 15 SP3 repositories as decided by the community via survey.opensuse.org
So I guess it was used for 15.4 too. Cheers, Ferdinand

That's right, I remember that too. However, I voted for openSUSE_Leap_15.4 at that time. But I think we should unify this, so the name in OBS is always and everywhere "15.4" and not once so and once so. Could this also be the reason why software.opensuse.org is not usable for Leap 15.3? Can someone from the official side please confirm the vote and its result and thus the default? And can the person then also add it to the wiki? Regards Eric

By the way. Repo Base:System also uses openSUSE_Leap_15.4! So quite the vote can not be the default?! Gruß Eric

Oh my. People are always so quick to vote for something that that is not up for voting in the first place.

Some years ago I already asked a question like this. The current situation is pretty bad for automation. On Debian I can add my custom APT repos with a line based on LSB facts be done with it forever (with ansible and Jinja2 templates): aedir_package_repos: "AE-DIR": repo: "deb https://ae-dir.com/repo/debian/{{ ansible_lsb.codename }} {{ ansible_lsb.codename }} main" key: "AE-DIR-project.gpg.key" For openSUSE and SLE I have to maintain a dictionary to follow whatever naming convention the release-specific repo URLs have (see current values attached below). And that sucks. Ciao, Michael. # which repos on https://download.opensuse.org to use for openSUSE or SLES versions aedir_suse_repo: "SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 15 SP3": "https://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:/stroeder:/iam/15.3/" "SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 15 SP4": "https://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:/stroeder:/iam/15.4/" "openSUSE Leap 15.3": "https://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:/stroeder:/iam/15.3/" "openSUSE Leap 15.4": "https://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:/stroeder:/iam/15.4/" "openSUSE Tumbleweed": "https://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:/stroeder:/iam/openSUSE_Tumb..."
