[opensuse-buildservice] ISO files and distributions
When building ISO images using kiwi, I have a question: It seems that I have no problems building ISO images for SUSE base distros (no surprise there). However, if I try to build an ISO image using something else (CentOS seems to be my example...), I get an unresolvable error: nothing provides kiwi, nothing provides kiwi-packagesmanager:instsource. So... does the ISO building in OBS require those package compiled for the target distribution? Or is kiwi independant of the OS the ISO image is being built for? -- Troy Telford -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-buildservice+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-buildservice+help@opensuse.org
Troy, We've done a lot of work getting CentOS images working cleanly. I've cc'd Praveen, who is doing most of the actual engineering and can likely give you a couple pointers. We've had a todo item for a while now to publish our CentOS kiwi configs. Praveen has a great incentive to do that now due to some bonuses they are giving for blog entries that get good hit counts, so maybe this will spur him to finally do that too. :) -- Michael (yes, I know about top posting, sorry.) ________________________________________ From: Troy Telford [ttelford.groups@gmail.com] Sent: Thursday, October 21, 2010 3:10 PM To: opensuse-buildservice@opensuse.org Subject: [opensuse-buildservice] ISO files and distributions When building ISO images using kiwi, I have a question: It seems that I have no problems building ISO images for SUSE base distros (no surprise there). I'm very interested in anything you have, and helping you if I can. My current project is to get CentOS (as well as other RHEL-based distros) building ISOs out of OBS. Once I can do that, I'll hopefully be able to start putting my employer on the list of companies that use OBS... (which has been a goal of mine for a few years now...) -- Troy Telford -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-buildservice+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-buildservice+help@opensuse.org

i'm interested about this too, let's see it :) -- later, Robert Xu -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-buildservice+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-buildservice+help@opensuse.org
I finally posted about a blog about the work we have done to build CentOS/RHEL images on OBS. Following is the link for the same: http://en.community.dell.com/dell-blogs/enterprise/b/tech-center/archive/201... I'm
most grateful. As I digest it, I might have some questions; for now I'm glad to see this! -- Troy Telford -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-buildservice+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-buildservice+help@opensuse.org

This what we usually do, because our distro projects should contain the tools which are used to create them (as also gcc should be part in the version which was used to create the distro)...
Or is kiwi independant of the OS the ISO image is being built for?
... But that is a philosphy question, you can also use meanwhile a complete different tool chain path. You need to add a <path xml element in your images repository. But you should use OBS 2.1 for this at least. This would be independend of the repositories defined in the kiwi file. -- Adrian Schroeter SUSE Linux Products GmbH email: adrian@suse.de -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-buildservice+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-buildservice+help@opensuse.org
