[opensuse-buildservice] Inconsistency with the XML Project
This morning I updated idzebra as part of the XML project. Version 1.3.36 is now available, I checked it by browsing the server at http://software.opensuse.org/download/XML/xml-10.1/i586/ . But if I add http://software.opensuse.org/download/repositories/XML/xml-10.1 as an installation source, Yast still sees 1.3.34, and if I select it for installation, if fails with this message: ┌────────────────────────────────────────┐ │Cannot access installation media │ │ CD 1. │ │Check that the server is accessible. │ │[ ] Show details │ │ │ │ │ │ [OK][Abort][Skip] │ └────────────────────────────────────────┘ Obviously, there is a inconsistency in the meta data. How can I fix this? -- Karl Eichwalder R&D / Documentation SUSE Linux Products GmbH Key fingerprint = B2A3 AF2F CFC8 40B1 67EA 475A 5903 A21B 06EB 882E

The repodata on the build service seems to be correct. Maybe this is an issue with one of the mirrors or with YaST. file downloads are redirected to mirrors. so the mirror is still outdated. darix -- openSUSE - SUSE Linux is my linux openSUSE is good for you www.opensuse.org --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-buildservice-unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-buildservice-help@opensuse.org

I thought that redirect only happen if the mirror is known to be up to date? This is what we have been told but due to the fact that the code doing that is not open, only members of the Inner Party really know. Robert -- Robert Schiele Tel.: +49-621-181-2214 Dipl.-Wirtsch.informatiker mailto:rschiele@uni-mannheim.de "Quidquid latine dictum sit, altum sonatur."

What on earth are you talking about? The mirror handling is implemented by christoph and certainly not closed source. Ah, it is availlable? Very good! Could you point me to the place where I can look at it? Robert -- Robert Schiele Tel.: +49-621-181-2214 Dipl.-Wirtsch.informatiker mailto:rschiele@uni-mannheim.de "Quidquid latine dictum sit, altum sonatur."

Well, the redirector magic hasn't been released yet, but if you are so keen on enhancing it, I'll forward you my current working copy, Robert. Regards Christoph

I can't tell you whether I want provide improvements before I have seen it. But why don't you release this code from the very beginning. It is much easier to find contributers when you start with simple code than when you wait until the code has grown to some scaring comlexity probably providing big barriers for potential new contributors. I think most projects that are started within the openSUSE projects fail in this aspect. Why do you always first start the projects behind the curtain? The "open" in openSUSE should really be emphasised a bit stronger. If you replace old proprietary infrastructure at SUSE with new proprietary infrastructure or just add new proprietary infrastructure then openSUSE will never be really open. And btw: Software can still be managed in a proprietary way, even when the license is an OSI license. You will only gain from open source software if you follow an open development model. Read my other mail on opensuse-factory from today to get some emotions about the current situation. And about sending a copy: I most likely won't work on a copy because it already happened to me that I did improvements to a copy of some piece of software and sent this back to the original author to get the answer: "I implemented almost the same in the meantime in my copy." Alright, it's in public svn, finally ;) https://forgesvn1.novell.com/svn/opensuse/trunk/tools/download-redirector/ (I'm just upgrading software.openSUSE.org and download.openSUSE.org to the new version, which has a very much improved update_cache.php, to minimize the number of broken redirects, which could have happend from time to time.) As always, feedback is very much appreciated!
