[opensuse-buildservice] replying to messages in this mailinglist
Hi I am a member of several mailinglists and for the other lists I am a member of whenever I reply to a message it gets send to the mailinglist, however whenever I reply to message from this list the message gets send to the author of the message only. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-buildservice+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-buildservice+help@opensuse.org

Pick "reply to all". -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-buildservice+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-buildservice+help@opensuse.org

On this list you must hit reply-all. The person that sent the message you are responding to will get the message twice, but it is the only easy way to do it because the list owners refuse to fix this problem. -- Med Vennlig Hilsen, A. Well, your mail client is not suitable for professional use then. Good ones have a list reply function and even better ones set and honor Mail-Followup-To¹. cu Ludwig [1] http://cr.yp.to/proto/replyto.html -- (o_ Ludwig Nussel //\ V_/_ http://www.suse.de/ SUSE LINUX Products GmbH, GF: Markus Rex, HRB 16746 (AG Nuernberg) -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-buildservice+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-buildservice+help@opensuse.org

Please see also http://www.unicom.com/pw/reply-to-harmful.html http://woozle.org/~neale/papers/reply-to-still-harmful.html http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Address_munging and learn to use your MUA. Some of them come with a manual. Some even offer man pages. ;) Looks like we must create a dedicated wiki page at http://en.openSUSE.org/ for this topic as it is coming back again and again. Next we should add a (well hidden) header to each mail pointing people to this article. :) Lars -- Lars Müller [ˈlaː(r)z ˈmʏlɐ] Samba Team SUSE Linux, Maxfeldstraße 5, 90409 Nürnberg, Germany

You are missing http://www.metasystema.net/essays/reply-to.html in the list. And, more importantly, http://en.opensuse.org/OpenSUSE_mailing_list_netiquette#Personal_and_mail_li... , which is the authoritative document here. -- Lubos Lunak openSUSE Boosters team, KDE developer l.lunak@suse.cz , l.lunak@kde.org -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-buildservice+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-buildservice+help@opensuse.org

Nice, as that's the page I intended to quote. :) But as we're all open to arguments isn't it nice to demonstrate the other point of view first? :)

Good to know. I've added a pointer to the article why "[Reply-To Munging Considered Useful". Lars -- Lars Müller [ˈlaː(r)z ˈmʏlɐ] Samba Team SUSE Linux, Maxfeldstraße 5, 90409 Nürnberg, Germany

I would not call this a problem. That way, you can separate general list chatter, and messages that are a reply to one of your own messages. Needless to say that you can edit ~/.procmailrc and add a recipe to suit your needs. I still have :0f * ^X-Mail: opensuse$ |/usr/bin/formail -bfi "Reply-To: opensuse@opensuse.org" though it seems the X-Mail Header is now replaced by X-Mailinglist. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-buildservice+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-buildservice+help@opensuse.org
