[opensuse-buildservice] richclient release 0.3.8
Just released version 0.3.8 of the QT client for the buildservice, if anyone could take a look and give me feedback it would be greatly appreciated. It sure ain't as fully featured as OSC but is starting to take shape and currently allow you to browse around the BS. It's currently building and will be available shortly from http://software.opensuse.org/download/openSUSE:/Tools/<suse_version>/ --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-buildservice+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-buildservice+help@opensuse.org

I had a look. It's already quite nice for browsing projects and packages. It's also great to see that there is work going on in this area. For some use cases the rich client is certainly more suitable than the web client or the command line client. Some comments (in random order): - It would be nice, if it wouldn't be necessary to explicitly "connect". The user information could be loaded automatically at startup (maybe a "refresh" action somewhere might make sense). - On the project tab there is no indication about the packages. The user has to switch to the package tab to see what's in there. Maybe it would be better to show a listview with the package list in a second column next to the project list and switch the pane at the right to show the package information when a package gets selected. - The filter at the bottom of the package and project lists doesn't work yet. It's pretty easy to make it work by using KListViewSearchLine. - When switching to the package tab the last selected package info is shown, even when another project has been selected and the package doesn't exist in this project. -- Cornelius Schumacher <cschum@suse.de> --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-buildservice+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-buildservice+help@opensuse.org

How about a "Search Package" tab to find packages in Build Service? Show the results (with some details like project where it is) and double clicking switch to the Package tab. This would be something like http://benjiweber.co.uk:8080/webpin/ does but in real time (I think webpin isn't in real time because only today my packages appeared on search which already had been added some days ago). To the real time search you could use the new api.opensuse.org features announced yesterday by Andreas Bauer here in the mailinglist. By the way, I was sometimes thinking about an interactive mode for osc. It would be used in the sense of a "osc shell", and it could keep a connection open to save the overhead of connecting each time the user requests something new. This could possibly be useful in itself for commandline users. But I just thought it could also work great as a "control channel" for a GUI application, like the richclient. What do you think?
