[opensuse-buildservice] OBS project creation request -- ipop (Bug 888063)
Hi guys, created a "bug" at bugzilla.novell.com [1] to request creation of a new OBS project for IPOP [2]. Till now (10 days later) there is no progress or any answer. On IRC someone told me that he wasn't sure about the legality, but no further information about the reasons. What can I do to speed up the creation? OBS has projects composed of packages. ipop looks like it would be a package, not a project. Projects typically have hundreds of packages each. Your package https://build.opensuse.org/package/show/home:robomod/ipop is definitely an example of single ipop package in OBS speak. To create a package you first build it in your home project (or a sub-project of your home project). Obviously you have done that. Once you have it built and tested you do a SR (submit request) of the new package to an existing project. If you want to do that via the gui, notice the "submit package" button near the top of the overview tab of your package: https://build.opensuse.org/package/show/home:robomod/ipop Once you click that button the dialog box will ask you which project you want to submit to. After that, one of the project maintainers accepts (or declines) it. Typically when they accept a new package they will add you as the specific maintainer, but all project maintainers will also have maintainer rights to the new package. If you want to make sure you get maintainer rights, explicitly ask for them in the SR. As to your bugzilla, if I'm right that ipop should be a package not a project, just close the bugzilla as invalid. If I'm wrong and really do want a ipop project you should at least update the bugzilla to explain why it should be a project. Sounds correct. I think the network project is the right place to put ipop in. My problem is now that we want to provide packages for many distributions which are not activated in the network project. Is there any way to solve this issue as package? Not at the package level. If I understand what ipop is I would consider submitting it to network:vpn which is a much smaller project (only 7 packages) It also only has 3 maintainers: https://build.opensuse.org/project/users/network:vpn Before submitting you could email them directly and see if they would be willing to let you have maintainer rights at the project level and/or add in the repositories you want. The idea would be to add in the repositories you need, but default them not to build. Then for ipop override the default. If they agree, then submit your package there. I note that network:vpn is already setup as a devel project for factory, so if you decide to push ipop into factory in the future you should be able to do it straight from network:vpn.
