[opensuse-buildservice] Improving the throughput during busy times on Open Build Service using ioDrive , cost < $3000
Hello, Can it be possible to get some organisations to assist opensuse to fund a iodrive card to use for speeding up the public instance of the Open Build Service (OBS). I saw some cards [1] on ebay for less than $3000, which could help obs process many more jobs in a given time frame. What are your thoughts on improving the throughput during busy times on Open Build Service (OBS)? Cheers Glenn [1] Fusion-IO cards listing on ebay ,some models that were listed for less than $3000. url: http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_odkw=ioDrive&_sop=15&gbr=1&_fcid=1&_osacat=0... - Fusion-IO 80GB PCI-Express IO-Drive SSD Device - Fusion-IO 320GB ioDrive (MLC) - Fusion-io ioDrive Duo 640GB SS Storage Device (Refurbished) - Dell 2TTK9 640GB MLC ioDrive Fusion-io PCI-e Flash IO - Genuine Dell 320GB MLC Fusion-io Drive 9WHPF DW2VJ 09WHPF 0DW2VJ - Genuine Dell 640GB MLC Fusion-io Drive 2TTK9 TMP9D 02TTK9 0TMP9D - HP 640GB Fusion IO ioDRIVE DUO PCIe Accelerator SSD 600478-001 600282-B21 Here is a youtube video of 1 fusion IO card handling 4500 movies streaming at once. I'll say it once, and I'll say it again: it does not pay off to invest in anything more than SSDs. $ time osc build -bd --clean openSUSE_Factory x86_64 nx-libs.spec [I added an "exit 1" call at the end of %prep] Machine 1 (i7-2600K, 32G RAM, osbuild-packagecache on rotational disk seagate ST3000DM001-9YN166, buildroot on ...): tmpfs: 21 s disk: 55 s Machine 2 (i7-2600K, 32G RAM, osbuild-packagecache on SSD, buildroot on ...): tmpfs: 17 s ssd: 19 s These tests were hot runs, so packagecache was buffered in RAM. As such, extracing the RPMs to populate the buildroot was essentially a huge memcpy from and to RAM. = FusionIO won't help here. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-buildservice+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-buildservice+owner@opensuse.org
