[opensuse-buildservice] Problems building gizmod package on build server -- works fine locally...?
Hi all. I posted this on IRC (via pastebin.com) but there wasn't anyone there that could see what the issue was here. I am guessing there's a dependency missing, but it really puzzles me that it complains about the boost library which *is* installed... Here follows my tale of woe: I have built gizmod 3.3 on my openSUSE beta2 without issue but on the buildservice in the automated xen-environment, it cannot find the boost library, even though it gets installed during startup. I have tried with just '--with-boost' (worked on my machine) and '--with-boost=/usr' (hoping it would help, but alas...) I am at a loss as to why this is a problem. I could understand if there was a dependency I hadn't mentioned in the .spec file, but that doesn't seem to be the case... In case it can help narrow it down, heres an ldd dump of the gizmod binary: dualpc:/home/martin/Documents # ldd /usr/bin/gizmod linux-gate.so.1 => (0xffffe000) libH.so.3 => /usr/lib/libH.so.3 (0xb7f2d000) libGizmod.so.3 => /usr/lib/libGizmod.so.3 (0xb7e95000) libboost_program_options.so.1.33.1 => /usr/lib/libboost_program_options.so.1.33.1 (0xb7e5d000) libboost_filesystem.so.1.33.1 => /usr/lib/libboost_filesystem.so.1.33.1 (0xb7e4b000) libboost_thread-mt.so.1.33.1 => /usr/lib/libboost_thread-mt.so.1.33.1 (0xb7e3e000) libpython2.5.so.1.0 => /usr/lib/libpython2.5.so.1.0 (0xb7d1c000) libboost_python.so.1.33.1 => /usr/lib/libboost_python.so.1.33.1 (0xb7ce1000) libboost_serialization.so.1.33.1 => /usr/lib/libboost_serialization.so.1.33.1 (0xb7c87000) libX11.so.6 => /usr/lib/libX11.so.6 (0xb7b6c000) libxcb-xlib.so.0 => /usr/lib/libxcb-xlib.so.0 (0xb7b69000) libxcb.so.1 => /usr/lib/libxcb.so.1 (0xb7b4f000) libXau.so.6 => /usr/lib/libXau.so.6 (0xb7b4b000) libdl.so.2 => /lib/libdl.so.2 (0xb7b47000) libasound.so.2 => /usr/lib/libasound.so.2 (0xb7a8b000) libstdc++.so.6 => /usr/lib/libstdc++.so.6 (0xb799d000) libm.so.6 => /lib/libm.so.6 (0xb7978000) libgcc_s.so.1 => /lib/libgcc_s.so.1 (0xb796c000) libc.so.6 => /lib/libc.so.6 (0xb7839000) libpthread.so.0 => /lib/libpthread.so.0 (0xb7822000) librt.so.1 => /lib/librt.so.1 (0xb7819000) libutil.so.1 => /lib/libutil.so.1 (0xb7815000) /lib/ld-linux.so.2 (0xb7f76000) It failed on 10.2, 10.3 and openSUSE Factory. Actually, no. But I asked for builds for both 586 and x86_64 and both failed. I admit I didn't check if the error was the same for the 586 version. I just assumed it was. ... Just checked, the error is the same for 586. What on earth would prevent configure from finding boost when it's there and how can I get past it? There's no doubt that I have many more packages installed locally, but based on what the author says the package should require, it should all be there, I believe... /Martin. ----- "Marcus Rueckert" <mrueckert@suse.de> wrote:

Did you build in the running system or in a chroot using 'osc build'? With osc build, you should get the same results as in the buildservice and you should be able to debug the issue easily.
buildservice in the automated xen-environment, it cannot find the boost library, even though it gets installed during startup.

I have only tried the webinterface. I will have to investigate this 'osc build'. Do I need more than my Novell build-enabled account to use 'osc'? /Martin. ----- "Michal Marek" <mmarek@suse.cz> wrote:

You just have to install the osc rpm from the openSUSE:Tools project. That's all:) Marcus --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-buildservice+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-buildservice+help@opensuse.org
Okay... I'm a bit confused now. --- Several minutes later somewhat less confused. Managed to figure out I should do a 'osc co home:martinm_76' first... dualpc:/vol/TV3-2/temp/tmp # osc co home:martinm_76 A home:martinm_76 A home:martinm_76/gizmod A home:martinm_76/gizmod/gizmod-3.3.tar.bz2 A home:martinm_76/gizmod/gizmod.spec Much 'osc help xxx' later I learned that I should be in the directory of what I want to build: dualpc:/vol/TV3-2/temp/tmp/home:martinm_76/gizmod # osc build Missing argument. Valid arguments are: you have to choose a repo to build on possible repositories on this machine are: openSUSE_10.2 i586 openSUSE_10.3 i586 openSUSE_Factory i586 dualpc:/vol/TV3-2/temp/tmp/home:martinm_76/gizmod # osc build openSUSE_10.3 i586 Missing argument: build description (spec of dsc file) dualpc:/vol/TV3-2/temp/tmp/home:martinm_76/gizmod # osc build openSUSE_10.3 i586 gizmod.spec Now I just have to wait a long while for the environment to be set up and start building... ;) If anyone has the option, you may want to change the 'reporting a bug' to say something to the effect of joining this mailing-list. I originally filed a bug-report in buzilla.novell.com as that was what 'reporting a bug' lead me to believe what the right thing to do and they said I should post it on the ML.... /Martin. ----- "Marcus Hüwe" <suse-tux@gmx.de> wrote:

I think you're referring to #326970? This is a packaging bug and not a BuildService bug so it belongs to the opensuse-packaging@opensuse.org list or to this one (personally I would prefer opensuse-packaging). I just had a look at your gizmod package - I attached a small patch (+ some comments) for your spec file. If you apply this patch to your spec file you should be able to build gizmod in the BS. If you have question don't hesitate to ask:) Marcus
I'll try that out soon. I hit a snag trying to get going locally: dualpc:/vol/TV3-2/temp/tmp/home:martinm_76/gizmod # osc build openSUSE_10.3 i586 gizmod.spec Getting buildinfo from server Updating cache of required packages Verifying integrity of cached packages The following package could not be verified: /var/tmp/osbuild-packagecache/openSUSE:10.3/standard/i586/aaa_base-10.3-88.i586.rpm: sha1 md5 gpg O.K. Tried looking over the docs mentioned in osc help, but didn't see anything about package verifying.... I haven't created too many .spec files before so any help is certainly appreciated ;) -- Tried to mimmick what I found in other .spec files. /Martin. ----- "Marcus Hüwe" <suse-tux@gmx.de> wrote:

It sounds a bit strange to me that the verification says "okay" but still fails. You can try removing the package so it is re-fetched if you are desparate. Or try rpm -Kv on the file and see what it says.
Tried looking over the docs mentioned in osc help, but didn't see anything about package verifying....
I was considering adding a "--dont-verify-packages" option to osc build in the past, but I think there must be something wrong in your case which needs to be fixed anyway. So it might not even help.
I haven't created too many .spec files before so any help is certainly appreciated ;) -- Tried to mimmick what I found in other .spec files.

You were quite right. It now built perfectly on the build-server A couple of missing dependencies and a few macros missing... Gettings smarter all the time (thankfully). Thanks a million for your help. Now I'll think about planning to become a super-duper package submitter... /Martin. ----- "Marcus Hüwe" <suse-tux@gmx.de> wrote:
