Hello, there was no official answer to the SuSE 9.3 topic. Is there a chance to get SuSE 9.3 back into the buildservice or is the only alternative to setup an own buildservice? Yes, this is the only option. But please note that SUSE does not deliver security updates for it and I know know one else who is doing it for the product. So it is quite risky to run it, without knowing what actually might be insecure in it... bye adrian -- Adrian Schroeter SUSE LINUX Products GmbH, GF: Markus Rex, HRB 16746 (AG Nrnberg) email: adrian@suse.de --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-buildservice+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-buildservice+help@opensuse.org

except you tell me that you (and others) want to maintain the security fixes in the build service ;)

I would have no problem on doing that, if you guys finally decide that's a good idea. Cheers! -- Manuel Arostegui Ramirez. Try to find a group who is able to do it and I create a OBS project for it .. I think it is quite important to define first how these security updates should get made, either via classic SUSE way (only security fix, no version update) to avoid any new problems for the users or via version updates. In the later case there should be some rule what limits it IMHO, otherwise you risk to reach the size of a complete distribution easily. bye adrian -- Adrian Schroeter SUSE LINUX Products GmbH, GF: Markus Rex, HRB 16746 (AG Nrnberg) email: adrian@suse.de --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-buildservice+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-buildservice+help@opensuse.org

So large parts of the Strato server room are insecure - they still offer only 9.3 on their virtual servers (and Debian Sarge, but that's another story and OT here ;-) On root servers, they offer "openSUSE 10" (*argh* another one that got the name wrong) which has at least support until October. BTW: I just sent a mail to Strato. Maybe on some day it will be less work to provide servers with 10.2 than to answer all the questions why they still offer 9.3 ;-)) Regards, Christian Boltz --
You only read the second paragraph, didn't you? Why do you write emails where one has to read the stuff between the first and the last word? [> Stephan Kulow and Dirk Mueller in opensuse-packaging]

Well. The 10.0 servers can be updated to 10.2 without problems. I failed to do so with the virtual servers. Updating a Kernel 2.4 system to kernel 2.6 system, when there is no real kernel seems to be impossible.

I hope so. If they at least would offer 10.2 to choose for installation.
