[Bug 561719] New: suspend to disk or ram does not work
http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=561719 http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=561719#c0 Summary: suspend to disk or ram does not work Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.2 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.2 Status: NEW Severity: Critical Priority: P5 - None Component: Kernel AssignedTo: kernel-maintainers@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: torsten.foertsch@gmx.net QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- Created an attachment (id=331624) --> (http://bugzilla.novell.com/attachment.cgi?id=331624) /var/log/pm-suspend.log User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; en-US; rv:1.9.1.5) Gecko/20091103 SUSE/3.5.5-1.1.2 Firefox/3.5.5 When I try to syspend my notebook (HP 8710w) it does not turn off. The last line on the screen after disabling the splash screen reads "snapshotting system" or so. After that nothing happens. With opensuse 11.1 suspend worked on the same machine and after the snapshotting line there was a %-counter that showed the progress of writing to the swap partition. None of this on opensuse 11.2. This is a fresh install with EXT4 not an upgrade. I have tried all 3 kernels: desktop, default and vanilla. The box has 4GB RAM and a 4GB swap partition. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. choose "Leave..." from the desktop background menu 2. press "turn off the computer" and keep it pressed until a menu appears 3. choose "suspend to disk" Actual Results: The computer freezes. The only thing that works is pulling the plug or pressing the power button until the computer turns off. When turned on again it does a fresh reboot and shows information about clearing a number of inodes. (unclean shutdown) Expected Results: It should suspend, write the current state to the swap partition and turn off. Then when it is switched on it should restore the saved state from the swap partition. the problem is marked as critical because it can cause data loss due to the unclean file system shut down and because the system crashes. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

It's a nvidia Quadro FX 1600M card run by the proprietary driver.
That I'm afraid is the source of the problem. In principle the proprietary NVidia driver should handle suspend/resume for you. If it doesn't, there's not much we can do about that. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
