[Bug 206394] New: patch + delta rpms still ignored, update fails
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=206394 Summary: patch + delta rpms still ignored, update fails Product: SUSE Linux 10.1 Version: Final Platform: All OS/Version: SuSE Linux 10.1 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: YaST2 AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: volker3204@paradise.net.nz QAContact: jsrain@novell.com I understand 10.1 and the current 10.2A4 share the same package handling code, so this report should be valid for factory as well. I mirror updates locally, but only the patch and delta rpms. Everything is up to date. I install mysql from media and run YOU to install the update for it. zmd is disabled. Local mirror is configured as update source dir:// and is found fine. An error results, the update fails fatally: File ./rpm/x86_64/mysql-5.0.18-20.4.x86_64.rpm not found on media: dir:///media/src/suse/10.1/updates Obviously the file is missing - that's on purpose as explained before. Its delta and patch rpm are there. The patch rpm installs just fine (by method of rpm -UvhF - which is the most satisfactory method currently). Is it a lot of programming hassle to attempt to install a .patch.rpm when the .rpm can't be found, and to only give a fatal error if neither can be found? (Well there's still the delta handling to consider.) Dito for download. To be precise, the system has: libzypp-1.2.0-1.27 libzypp-zmd-backend-7.1.1.0-42.46 yast2-2.13.64.2-0.2 yast2-control-center-2.13.2-13 yast2-core-2.13.22-3 yast2-online-update-2.13.43-1.3 yast2-online-update-frontend-2.13.43-1.3 yast2-packager-2.13.139-1.3 yast2-pkg-bindings-2.13.88-1.3 -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=206394 ------- Comment #4 from volker3204@paradise.net.nz 2006-09-22 00:14 MST ------- Ok, uninstall flash-player, install package from box-DVD. Checked in "Installation Sources" that for the local mirror directory both "active" and "refresh" were set to "on", just in case. Click "refresh now" just in double-case, and "finish". Get annoyed by zmd kicking in although it's disabled (really should rpm -e it). Wait. Run "Online Update" from yast. The fancy error dialogue is indeed gone - as you said a different issue. The error I now get is the same as it has been for all of 10.1: File ./rpm/i586/flash-player-7.0.68.0-1.2.i586.rpm not found on media: dir:///media/src/suse/10.1/updates Very disappointing. Needless to say: # cd /media/src/suse/10.1/updates # rpm -UvhF ./rpm/i586/flash-player-7.0.68.0-1.2.i586.patch.rpm Preparing... ########################################### [100%] 1:flash-player ########################################### [100%] The delta is in the same directory. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

Wait - IIRC patch and delta RPMs are only used on remote sources (HTTP, FTP). However, I don't know if this is still true for 10.1. Does it work if you access your updates with http://localhost/some/path/ ? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

It's faster to set up vsftpd than apache, and patch and delta rpms are handled from ftp://localhost/path/ on 10.1 and 10.2. Well with 10.2 I've only tried ftp://LANhost/path/, but surely that's not different to ftp://localhost/path/. That ftp thing is only a workaround though, it's not great to have to set up an ftp server just to make yast read a file from local hard disk. Therefore this should be a feature request. I have no info that yast can read patch and delta rpms from hard disk in 10.2 but have not yet explicitly tried. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

Patch and deltas are only used on remote sources (HTTP, FTP), and this works. Enabling patch rpms from a local disk is safe and easy to do. I'll do it when fixing bug #231254. But delta rpms will for now stay remote. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
