[Bug 1121077] New: Very slow graphic refresh after kernel update with ASPEED VGA controller
http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1121077 Bug ID: 1121077 Summary: Very slow graphic refresh after kernel update with ASPEED VGA controller Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE Distribution Version: Leap 42.3 Hardware: x86-64 OS: openSUSE 42.3 Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Kernel Assignee: kernel-maintainers@forge.provo.novell.com Reporter: Damien.Allain@legos.obs-mip.fr QA Contact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- When I updated to kernel-default 4.4.155-68 (sep 2018) the screen took such a long time, about 4s, to repaint itself, that I could hardly use X. I waited for the next update, that was 4.4.159-73 (oct 2018), but with it the same problem occured. So I have been downgrading to 4.4.143-65-default (by editing grub configuration files) ever since. Output of ``sudo /sbin/lspci|grep -i graphic`` is : 08:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ASPEED Technology, Inc. ASPEED Graphics Family (rev 30) I forgot how to get more information on graphics cards. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

Bug 1112963 is the AST bug inferred by comment 1.
Thanks. I did see the description of this bug when I searched for a duplicate, but it did not look like anything to me... Should we still mark my bug as duplicate ? (In reply to Takashi Iwai from comment #1)
Please check with the latest kernel (or the kernel in OBS Kernel:openSUSE-42.3 repo). The likely relevant issue (the performance with AST graphics) has been recently fixed.
I did :: zypper up kernel-default but this gives version 4.4.165-81 (4 dec 2018) that has the same bug. So I reverted to the unbugged version with :: zypper install --oldpackage kernel-default-4.4.143-65.1.x86_64 cd /boot mv -v !(*4.4.143-65|.*4.4.143-65)-default* bugged/ cd /boot/grub2 mv -v grub.cfg{,~} grub2-mkconfig -o grub.cfg I looked at all comments of bug 1112963, especially from 115 onward and the dates they mention (4 dec 2018 onward), but I still fail to work out how to update to the fixed kernel. Could you tell me how I should do so ? -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
