[Bug 732670] New: back and forward icons missing in 3.6.x
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=732670 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=732670#c0 Summary: back and forward icons missing in 3.6.x Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.4 Version: Final Platform: x86 OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Firefox AssignedTo: bnc-team-mozilla@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: mrmazda@earthlink.net QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- Created an attachment (id=463989) --> (http://bugzilla.novell.com/attachment.cgi?id=463989) screenshot This has been going on for at least 9 months, maybe more like 18. I've been working around it by setting menus to text only, but this has gotten old. I have many openSUSE machines with many profiles, and I don't remember any running 3.6.x that don't have the problem. I don't remember any post-3.6 versions that do this, but those versions do not obey DTE DPI, and so are of limited use. Theme is default. The initial difference seemed to be KDE3 vs. KDE4, the latter of which I rarely use. So, here is a table of what I tested to confirm that difference: Host OS Resolution KDE FF FF Icons fi965 11.4 1600x1200 3.5.x 3.6.28 no gx260 11.4 1600x1200 3.5.x 3.6.28 no gx260 12.2M2 1600x1200 4.8.1 3.6.28 yes gx260 Cooker 1920x1440 4.8.0 3.6.28 yes gx27b 11.4 1600x1200 3.5.x 3.6.28 no kt880 11.4 1600x1200 4.8.2 3.6.28 yes vizio 11.4 1920x1080 3.5.x 3.6.28 no 4 with missing, all KDE3; 3 with, all KDE4. Proof right? Wrong. I did one more host: big31 11.4 1600x1200 3.5.x 3.6.28 yes big31 12.1 2048x1536 4.7.2 3.6.28 no big31 12.1 2048x1536 4.7.2 12.0 yes big31 12.2M3 1600x1200 4.8.2 3.6.28 yes So I started poking in installed packages to find a difference, and eventually found the gtk2-branding-openSUSE package provides these dismal-accessibility (colorless on 11.4 & 12.1, OK on 12.2) icons, but the gtk2-branding-upstream package, which provides pleasantly accessible icons for FF2 and FF12, apparently provides none for FF3. I gave addons theme search a try, but when testing samples of available themes, the back and fwd icons remained missing. Unfortunately, this all applies even to the mozilla.org binaries, so the only options for 3.6.x on openSUSE 11.4 & 12.1 are apparently among bad and worse. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I looked inside the gtk2-branding-* rpms to try to tell what was missing, but couldn't find any indication where any icons come from, and so gave up. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

In KControl's GTK Styles on this system the only choices are Raleigh and oxygen-gtk. I compared that to my 24/7 11.4 system, which has many more available choices, and Clearlooks selected. I changed selection to oxygen-gtk and restarted KDE, but it had no effect, even after removing gtk2-branding-*. This should be marked invalid if it doesn't happen with Firefox 14 or 15. 3.6.x hasn't been supported by the upstream for a while
No it shouldn't. It doesn't matter whether it's supported anywhere or not. It was broken long before support terminated. 2.0.0.20 isn't supported either, but I still need to use it for its features that were stripped from 3.5+, same as why I need 3.6.28, which has essential features that were stripped from 4.0+. I keep open all three at once and use whichever is required to allow me to do what needs doing. I shouldn't have to switch to some other distro just to have basic icons present in FF in every other distro. It has to be openSUSE's theming system and/or its Gnome/GTK that's responsible for Mozilla.org's FF 3.6.28 not showing basic icons that are included when I use the very same binary in Knoppix, Mageia, Mandriva, Fedora & Kubuntu. How hard can it be for someone familiar with FF code or theming to stop gtk2-branding-upstream from making 2 icons inaccessible, or adding missing ones if that's the problem, to FF 3.6.28? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I need to do some checking to confirm, but I think replacing kde3-kcm_gtk solves the problem, but that brings in 130.9MiB in 46 kdebase4/kdelibs4 packages and assorted akonadi, nepomuk, soprano & other KDE4 deps, all to provide two icons never missing running the exact same Mozilla.org Firefox binary in Fedora or Mageia. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
