[Bug 826158] New: Connect with ssh using IPv6 initially fails
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=826158 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=826158#c0 Summary: Connect with ssh using IPv6 initially fails Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 12.3 Version: Final Platform: Other OS/Version: openSUSE 12.3 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Network AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: f.de.kruijf@gmail.com QAContact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:21.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/21.0 I have a desktop with openSUSE 12.3 and a Raspberry Pi with the image recommended on the wiki. I give the command "ssh user@rpi6" where rpi6 is defined in /etc/hosts as a global IPv6 address. The Raspberry Pi uses the traditional ifup network configuration with 3 fixed IPv6 addresses. Configuration on the RPi is done via YaST. Both systems are in the same home network. Initially I get the error message: ssh: connect to host rpi6 port 22: Protocol error After this I give the command "ping6 rpi6", which gives the expected output. After this I give the ssh command again and now the connection succeeds. Reproducible: Sometimes Steps to Reproduce: 1. 2. 3. Expected Results: Immediate connection Have to wait a while before the problem occurs again. Will try to make a package dump using wireshark. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Wrong netmask, /128 for the IPv6 addresses, must be /64. In my view YaST and the NetworkManager applet need to give more information what to enter and give a warning when network mask higher that /24 for IPv4 and /64 for IPv6 are entered. Something like: Are you sure about this value for the network mask? It indicated which IP addresses are directly reachable, not via a router, on the network. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

more than /64 is strange for IPv6, I agree. There is nothing wrong with more tan 24 for IPv4, though. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 819168 *** http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=819168 -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
