https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=643983 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=643983#c0 Summary: Kernel:HEAD: Bug - 2.6.36-rc6-24 - no sound Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE.org Version: unspecified Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: 3rd party software AssignedTo: mmarek@novell.com ReportedBy: jnelson-suse@jamponi.net QAContact: opensuse-communityscreening@forge.provo.novell.com Found By: --- Blocker: --- I went from 2.6.36rc5 to 2.6.36-rc6-24 today. After rebooting, I noticed: I had no sound through my speakers. If I hook up my headset (USB microphone and speakers) I can tell pulseaudio to send audio there. The pulseaudio config looks fine. Ditto alsa. Just, no sound through the speakers. No error messages of any kind that I saw. hwinfo --sound: 14: PCI 1b.0: 0403 Audio device [Created at pci.318] Unique ID: u1Nb.iJWhLrosxI5 SysFS ID: /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1b.0 SysFS BusID: 0000:00:1b.0 Hardware Class: sound Model: "Lenovo ThinkPad T61" Vendor: pci 0x8086 "Intel Corporation" Device: pci 0x284b "82801H (ICH8 Family) HD Audio Controller" SubVendor: pci 0x17aa "Lenovo" SubDevice: pci 0x20ac "ThinkPad T61" Revision: 0x03 Driver: "HDA Intel" Driver Modules: "snd_hda_intel" Memory Range: 0xfe220000-0xfe223fff (rw,non-prefetchable) IRQ: 32 (7309 events) Module Alias: "pci:v00008086d0000284Bsv000017AAsd000020ACbc04sc03i00" Driver Info #0: Driver Status: snd_hda_intel is active Driver Activation Cmd: "modprobe snd_hda_intel" Config Status: cfg=yes, avail=yes, need=no, active=unknown -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=643983 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=643983#c1 --- Comment #1 from Jon Nelson <jnelson-suse@jamponi.net> 2010-10-07 00:02:46 UTC --- I found this: http://www.spinics.net/lists/alsa-devel/msg37957.html while researching potential solutions to the problem. Since using (any) older kernel works fine, it surely seemed a regression. I *did* get my sound back (details shortly), however I still consider this a significant issue, if people's sound configs are going to change from working to not-working with a new kernel... Anyway, here is what I did: stop pulseaudio remove everything from $HOME/.pulse that isn't a config file start pulseaudio The thing to take away from this is that the id numbers for mixer elements changed and that throws off (apparently) both pulse and kmix and others (right or wrong that's what happens). -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
