I upgraded to the suspend package mentioned in this bug, but I am still having issues resuming from suspend from RAM. I also tried the options "--force --vbe_post --vbe_mode" with no avail...

Using the kernel-vanilla package from ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/projects/kernel/kotd/HEAD/x86_64 suspend works fine. So _THIS_ bug ("doesn't work out of the box because of missing whitelist entry") is fixed, and the kernel bug is tracked in bug 378360. Please add yourself to the CC: of that bug so that you get notified of the progress. It certainly works on my machine :-( What happens by "Not even going in sleep mode"? Do you get an error or does just nothing happen at all? Does it hang before turning off? Maybe you are hitting bug 378917?
