[Bug 1206964] New: No Sound on Lenovo X1 Extreme Gen3 after Updates
http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1206964 Bug ID: 1206964 Summary: No Sound on Lenovo X1 Extreme Gen3 after Updates Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE Distribution Version: Leap 15.4 Hardware: Other OS: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Sound Assignee: tiwai@suse.com Reporter: p.heinlein@heinlein-support.de QA Contact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- Created attachment 863938 --> http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/attachment.cgi?id=863938&action=edit Output of hwinfo When we bought several Lenovo X1 Extreme Gen.3 in 2020 we had some issues with microphones with Leap 15.2 - that bug was handled in https://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1181975 and finally solved. The last two years everything worked fine and perfect with Leap 15.2 and finally 15.3. Last weekend I did the dist-upgrade to Leap 15.4 and now the internal speakers doesn't work any more. Similar to the microphone bug: It's working perfect with an external headset that bring its own USB soundcard, but with the onboard sound system the microphone is working, but the speakers are not. This behavior happens on two different X1 Extreme Gen3 that have worked before with 15.3 without any problems. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

Run the script with --no-upload option, and attach the output. Also, check whether the problem persists with the kernel from the latest SLE15-SP4 kernel git branch in OBS Kernel:SLE15-SP4 repo. There have been some known regressions in the last SLE15-SP4 kernel regarding the sound, and those have been addressed. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

Please give the dmesg output, too. But please check the behavior with the latest kernel in OBS Kernel:SLE15-SP4 repo at first. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1206964 http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1206964#c5 --- Comment #5 from Takashi Iwai <tiwai@suse.com> --- What if you reboot freshly? Does the sound device still disappear? I can't judge much from the given dmesg output whether the sound device appears at first or it's gone after some time by some reason. Meanwhile, the message about "init of i915 and HDMI codec failed" can be ignored in your case. It's a message merely indicating the lack of i915 graphics, and that's valid on your system (where it has only Nvidia GPU as active). In anyway, try to boot with the kernel in OBS Kernel:SLE15-SP4 kernel. And give the dmesg output as well as the alsa-info.sh output right after the boot with that kernel. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

Great. Thanks for your help. I'll still upload the fresh alsa and dmesh debug output FYI. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
