[Bug 823802] New: password timeout for encrypted partition: deleted on each upgrade
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=823802 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=823802#c0 Summary: password timeout for encrypted partition: deleted on each upgrade Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 12.3 Version: Final Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Installation AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: bluedzins@wp.pl QAContact: jsrain@suse.com Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:20.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/20.0 I wrote on "each upgrade" meaning it happened when upgrading to OS 12.2 and now when upgrading to 12.3. I have infinitive wait set for password for encrypted partitions, so system actually waits for me (not the other way around). This is _MY_ configuration. Yet, on upgrade, installer happily deletes it, and when I boot upgraded system I end up with password prompt with timeout. AGAIN. So again, I have to customize it. User settings should not be deleted --> this is a bug. Besides, annoying one, how many times an admin/user has to reconfigure his/her system? https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=823802 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=823802#c4 --- Comment #4 from Maciej Pilichowski <bluedzins@wp.pl> 2013-07-02 11:34:33 UTC --- @Ludwig, crypttab is the same. The problem is somewhere else -- OS for long time didn't not provide official way to kill timeout. So users relied on workarounds (see linked report). It might be the case, installer didn't run mkinitrd in OS 12.3. However, now even this does not matter, because OS12.3 simply does not support no timeout at all (workaround does not work). So it is really chain of bugs. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

So the data are there, assuming they still should be used, however the timeout is not used. Please read the linked report (below), because without resolving that bug, it is impossible to resolve this one now (it was possible in OS 12.2, but not anymore in 12.3). -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
