Multiple power-cycle/restart attempts always ended in a black freeze. Adding nomodeset on the kernel command line resulted in a running X11/KDE. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Install 11.3 RC2 on a HW w/ ATI FireGL (Radeon X1600) Actual Results: The installation selects RadeonHD as video driver, which does not work when kernel modesetting is enabled. Yet, the installation keeps kernel modesetting enabled. For the upgrade, the result was a running system, just without X. The new installation got stuck after installing all packages and when initializing for the configuration. Expected Results: Installation should be smooth and solid ;-) also for people not knowing about kernel modesetting. When a video driver needs to be chosen that does not work with kernel modesetting, then disable kernel modesetting, so that the installation can finish, and X can start. Not sure if a different video driver (radeon?) would have been a choice?
