[Bug 304722] New: Pentium III Coppermine CPU speed cpufreq modules not loaded by default
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=304722 Summary: Pentium III Coppermine CPU speed cpufreq modules not loaded by default Product: openSUSE 10.3 Version: Beta 2 Platform: i686 OS/Version: openSUSE 10.3 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Kernel AssignedTo: kernel-maintainers@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: rschaffter@comcast.net QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: Beta-Customer I noticed that, according to kpowersave, my PIII 850 Compaq Armada M700 was running at 700 MHz. Boot messages said that cpufreq couldn't be loaded. Comparing the module list to an Ubuntu installation on the same model of machine, the following modules were not being loaded in openSUSE: speedstep_lib speedstep_smi cpufreq_stats cpufreq_userspace cpufreq_ondemand cpufreq_powersave Adding them to MODULES_LOADED_ON_BOOT in /etc/sysconfig/kernel gives full 850 MHz speed in performance mode, 700 in powersave mode. I haven't yet decided if dynamic scaling is actually working, as there is currently a process using nearly 100% cpu. However, there is this message on boot: ondemand governor failed, too long transition latency of HW, fallback to performance governor. This is with the default kernel, rather than the bigsmp(!) kernel that was originally installed (Bug 304197). The dynamic scaling seemed to work fine with the bigsmp kernel, but I don't recall if there was the boot message about the governor failing. I should note that these modules are also not loaded in openSUSE 10.2, and after loading them as above dynamic cpu speed scaling works well. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
