[Bug 494889] New: with USB modem plugged in cannot shutdown the system
http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=494889 Summary: with USB modem plugged in cannot shutdown the system Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.1 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Critical Priority: P5 - None Component: Kernel AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: bluedzins@wp.pl QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- with USB modem plugged in cannot shutdown the system ADSL Speedtouch 330 USB modem. When I shutdown the system it waits very long at the point of killing ppp0 connection, and finally it gives up. Then from shutting down kbd and all further daemons there is error after error -- input/output error. The only way to shutdown the system is cold power off and that is why I am setting status to critical, depending on your filesystem you can loose the data (because the disks are not unmounted cleanly). I believe this bug was introduced in -20 or -21 release of the kernel because I see it after update 19->21. Prior to that, I saw it once or twice but on special occasions. Now it happens always. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Then from shutting down kbd and all further daemons there is error after error -- input/output error.
And after ~5 steps it is stuck for good -- that's why I cannot turn it off cleanly. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I don't know if it is the same case or not. Anyway, I have to shutdown it down brute-force method too. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

If there aren't, run (as root) "klogconsole -r 0 -l 8" and then shut down. Try to capture the console output. If it looks like there is nothing helpful, do alt+sysrq+w to show any blocked tasks and post the output here. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
