[Bug 660468] New: Wlan fails during boot with ath9k error wlan0: deauthenticating from local choice (reason=3)
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=660468 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=660468#c0 Summary: Wlan fails during boot with ath9k error wlan0: deauthenticating from local choice (reason=3) Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.3 Version: Final Platform: 64bit OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Basesystem AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: franz.fuder@ifaz.de QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; de; rv:1.9.2.12) Gecko/20101026 SUSE/3.6.12-1.1 Firefox/3.6.12 During boot there is no netwerk connection with the wlan0 device. I am using the ath9k driver because of the speed. Interestingly the ath5k is working fine. The problems start when I switched to the faster driver. When I restart the driver vi yast networtk, then the connection works fine. It happens just via the boot. However I installed the update but the problem still exists. I have to run yast- network wlan to get the card working. It looks to me that yast is not filling in the right module during boot.
Yast is only editing the configuration file /etc/sysconfig/network/ifcfg-wlan0. The module is determined by the "aliases". To learn which module supports your card run lspci and find out the VID;PID of the wlan adapter [1,2]. In this case you can see that the "Intel Corporation WiFi Link 5100" with the VID:PID of [8086:4232] is driven by the module iwlagn. Then you can double-check and see that the iwlagn supports the [8086:4232] adapter. It would be good to check your adapter the same way and take a look at the ath3k/ath9k aliases as well. The wifi card is: 06:00.0 Ethernet controller: Atheros Communications Inc. Atheros AR5001X+ Wireless Network Adapter (rev 01) lspci -s 6:0 -nk 06:00.0 0200: 168c:0013 (rev 01) Subsystem: 1186:3a13 Kernel driver in use: ath5k modinfo ath5k | grep 013 alias: pci:v000010B7d00000013sv*sd*bc*sc*i*
The mapping VID:PID -> module must be unique. Your card is supported by the ath5k driver. ath9k won't drive your card. The ath9k is used for soft-mac [1] cards. Unfortunately if you want to test the latest advantages of ath9k you'll have to change the wlan card [2]. I close as INVALID but reopen if you encounter any problem with ath9k. The ath9k driver is the driver for the card it enables turbo mode [1]
No it isn't. Unfortunately your card [168c:0013] is not supported by the ath9k driver. As you can see from the "modinfo ath5k" and "modinfo ath9k" your card is listed among the aliases of ath5k only. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
