[Bug 890893] New: net-tools from network:utilities repo lack /bin/netstat (1.60-804.1)
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=890893 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=890893#c0 Summary: net-tools from network:utilities repo lack /bin/netstat (1.60-804.1) Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 13.1 Version: Final Platform: Other OS/Version: openSUSE 13.1 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Network AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: werner.flamme@ufz.de QAContact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:31.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/31.0 Hi SUSE, I just tried to do my favorite "netstat -plent" and was greeted with "If 'netstat' is not a typo you can use command-not-found to lookup the package that contains it, like this: cnf netstat". I looked in /etc/xinet.d/netstat, and the server line points to /bin/netstat. "rpm -qf /etc/xinet.d/netstat" showed that the rpm in question is "net-tools", but "rpm -ql net-tools" did not show /bin/netstat or anything like that. So I reinstalled the net-tools rpm from the network:utilities repo (version 1.60-804.1), but to no avail, the binary was still missing. A "zypper in --force --oldpackage net-tools-1.60-763.1.2" (the version from the OSS repo) solved it, but I think it would be nice if netstat became included again in the net-tools package in the network:utilities repo. Regards, Werner Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Install the package net-tools-1.60-804.1 2. try to invoke "netstat" or look at the file list of the package 3. Actual Results: Aftre installation of net-tools-1.60-804.1, the netstat binary disappeared from my system. It is not mentioned in the filelist of this package. Expected Results: The package should have had installed the netstat binary, as older versions - like the one in the OSS 13.1 repo, net-tools-1.60-763.1.2 - did. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=890893 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=890893#c2 --- Comment #2 from Werner Flamme <werner.flamme@ufz.de> 2014-08-14 05:55:17 UTC --- Hi Bernhard, yes, it seems it was moved and should be replaced by "ss". But - why does /etc/xinetd.d/netstat still point to /bin/netstat? - why isn't there a replacement script aka wrapper? "netstat" and "ss" are not parameter compatible - or at least not output-compatible. "netstat -plent" has a completely different output from "ss -plent". Even if an alias is defined, there will be a lot of broken scripts with this removal. Of course the same is valid for the other removed commands (arp, ifconfig, route) too. And when I see that these modifications are "patches from SLE base" then I am anxious to change a bazillion scripts on my SLES boxes where my SAP systems run on. Not. Please provide a package like "net-tools-oldstyle" including cli wrappers, so one can get the "old style" output with the new tools. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

This package is called "net-tools-deprecated." -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
