Banshee simply does nothing. Both Mplayer and Xine display the files properly. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Both Banshee and Totem claim to support a reasonable set of mime types that GStreamer is _capable_ of supporting, but does not mean it is supported out of the box. We can't ship lots of codecs due to licensing/patents, nor can we ship alternative applications that would support these formats for the same reason. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Feel free to write an Mplayer or Xine backend. Totem supports a Xine backend, but we do not package it, and it's likely to be deprecated upstream anyway. But the frameworks don't matter... we can't ship or distribute the codec you are looking for. Build or install ffmpeg support for GStreamer and make sure ffmpeg has the codec plugin you are looking for, and Banshee will magically play the content you want. There might be native codec support for the content you want to play in GStreamer too, but it doesn't matter, because we can't ship it. GStreamer is a plugin-based system. We can only ship the plugins that are not encumbered by patents. It's not ridiculous. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Programmer <casualprogrammer@gmail.com> 2009-01-07 06:23:41 MST --- Well, thanks Aaron for the detailed explanation. As I am a _very_ casual programmer I will abstain from writing any backend for Banshee or Totem which would also force me to maintain it in the long run or freeze the version. And that's what I call ridiculous (no offense): to be forced to use multiple multimedia programs just to view or listen what I can easily have in one by using MS Media Player. So much for attracting Windows users to Linux... -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
