[Bug 804160] New: Boot menu entry "Check Installation Media" doesn't work
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=804160 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=804160#c0 Summary: Boot menu entry "Check Installation Media" doesn't work Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 12.3 Version: RC 1 Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: SUSE Other Status: NEW Severity: Minor Priority: P5 - None Component: Installation AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: jdelvare@suse.com QAContact: jsrain@suse.com Found By: Community User Blocker: --- Booting on the Gnome Live CD of openSUSE 12.3 RC1/x86_64, if I select Check Installation Media in the boot menu, it doesn't work. It seems to boot as when staring the Gnome Live system, but the wait screen is displayed forever. At some point (10 minutes), I got tired waiting, switched to the first console (Ctrl+Alt+F1) and typed "Enter". It unstuck the boot process and after a few minutes I could see the regular Gnome desktop of the Live system. I couldn't see any error message, but if you tell me where to look, I can check again. As a side note, I don't quite see the value of this boot menu entry. Checking the installation media is one of the many things which can be achieved from the Live system (which is what I ended up doing.) So if we can't fix the boot menu entry, I'd rather just remove it. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Hm, our regular 12.3 isos work fine.
they are not used as hybrid media, are they ? 1) make sure to use the latest checkmedia version (3.0) rpm -q checkmedia checkmedia-3.0-2.1.6.x86_64 2) the padding value must match the one used by genisofs that matches. here is the last genisoimage call ... KIWIIsoLinux::findAndCopyMagicBlock start block at: 2993 /usr/bin/genisoimage -R -J -f -pad -joliet-long -allow-limited-size -udf -A "0x77059218" -p "KIWI - http://opensuse.github.com/kiwi" -publisher "SUSE LINUX GmbH" -sort /tmp/kiso-sort-rJQh4b -no-emul-boot -boot-load-size 4 -boot-info-table -b boot/x86_64/loader/isolinux.bin -c boot/x86_64/boot.catalog -hide boot/x86_64/boot.catalog -hide-joliet boot/x86_64/boot.catalog -eltorito-alt-boot -no-emul-boot -boot-load-size 1 -b boot/x86_64/efi -eltorito-alt-boot -b boot/x86_64/efi -no-emul-boot -joliet-long -hide glump -hide-joliet glump -hide glump -hide-joliet glump -o /tmp/mytest/iso-vmxFlavour/LimeJeOS-openSUSE-12.3.x86_64-1.12.3.iso /tmp/kiso-loader-nvkdpd /tmp/mytest/iso-vmxFlavour/CD according to the man page -pad pads the end by 150 sectors thus tagmedia with -pad 150 is correct and also has worked up to now 3) used as disk, you can't check just the partition as the checksum was done over the entire disk this is something I can fix in kiwi, will do that thanks PS I'm afraid I can't send the iso, my bandwidth doesn't allow that but you can easily build an iso on your own: Install kiwi from here: http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/Virtualization:/Appliances kiwi --build suse-12.3-JeOS -d /tmp/mytest --type iso at the boot prompt type: mediacheck=1 -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Right after the genisofs call, is the padding area really zeroed? If not, this would be a genisofs issue.
With -udf option it is padded with non-zero on purpose: genisoimage.c: /* * Pad with anchor volume descriptor pointer * blocks instead of zeroes. */ No genisoimage documentation says that padding must be zero, so I think that this is not a bug. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
